My wife was leaving work today and the 2007 Lexus GX470 won't move. Reverse or Drive. Scanned it but no codes. The AT/P, Tire pressure, VSC and the Center Lock Dif light are on. When you push it from R to P, you get a grinding noise for a few seconds. I did figure out if you put it in 4WD, it drives normally. I did notice the parking brake lever won't lock in place when you try to apply it. She says she hasn't run over anything and it ran fine going to work. She did say it seemed to lose power going up the hill coming back from lunch. I was able to drive it home in 4WD. Any ideas?

your GX is full-time 4WD. To drive normally, you need to be in 4H, not N, on the transfer case.

I never drive the GX. So what you are saying is she must have moved the lever from 4WD High to neutral? What a freakin' idiot I am...

That's correct.

That should fix the other lights too.

best fix ever 👍

She hangs her 20 lb satchel on the lever. That’s what pulled it out of gear.

Well, several lessons learned. Thank y’all.

I got up this morning and took the GX around the block at 20 degrees and high winds. Had to disengage the 4 WD Lock by pressing that button. TPMS stayed on. All is well.

She just got up and I gave her the good news while she was getting her morning news feed. She did say she slammed on the brakes coming back to work before it started acting like it was coming out of gear. She did say she pressed some buttons on the dash (Lock Differential Button). She did say the TPMS light has been on since it got into the 20's.

Z, many thanks!

You lucky…no repair bill!

yeah, that's definitely enough to pull the transfer case out of gear. button mashing to try to fix it isn't the right move either LOL

TPMS isn't a huge deal.
