Gunnison Gorge June 13-15

Fourth Annual Gunison Gorge Campout and Run. (How do I turn this off?) Primarily a camping trip but we will do some wheeling on nearby trails. Other activities may be fishing on the river, whitewater trip by kayak or tube, biking and just relaxing with a cold one. I will go down Thursday to claim a couple of sites to accommodate a group. We will camp at Cottonwood Campground near the forks but on the south bank, not at Pleasure Park. Details soon.

How about it BCCers? Is anybody planning on coming? You will be missing out on a fun weekend. This will be a social event more than a wheeling weekend but we will get in some dirt driving too. I expect it will be hot down in the gorge so be sure to bring some shade tarps. There are pavilions that have good shade but more would be welcome. Nether the road in or the campsites are good for bigger RVs but fine for smaller trailers and tents. The wind usually gets pretty stiff each afternoon so you will need heavy duty tent stakes to keep tents and tarps anchored.

The river is too high and cold for tubing but great for kayaking if you have at least some whitewater experience. I will bring my inflatable kayak and we can do shuttled runs right from camp. Good mountain biking nearby too. If you can make it down please bring a few bundles of wood.
