Looking forward to your impressions comparing the 60 and 62 after you get the gray one up to snuff

I am as well. Having two opposites to compare will be fun.

In a lot of ways, I try to improve upon my 60 by adding 62 and 80 series parts. So this was a natural progression.

-62 rear sway
-80 series steering gear.
-3fe 80 series fan clutch

All of those items made a huge improvement. The 62 rear sway is as good if an upgrade as the h55f. It really refined the truck.

When I had both, I liked my stock '84 FJ60 better all around, with BFG 33X9.50R15 ATs. But that changed when I swapped pretty much everything over from my '89 FJ62 donor vehicle to my '86 FJ60 and added a new H55f. The only other upgrades, other than the new Pioneer sound system, were the OME suspension, 70-Series 16" wheels with BFG 235/85R16 ATs, 4-Runner front wipers, and a custom exhaust system using 3FE exhaust manifolds, the FJ60 catalytic converter, and the donor FJ62's muffler/tail pipe assembly.

That is basically the truck they should have sold here.

This is the second order. I'm going to catalog how and where I replaced things.

I'm pretty sure I purchased all of the 62 cooling hoses and oil cooler lines along with all new clamps. I overkilled this order on small parts, but I'd rather not get ankles deep in this and not have a .50 clamp.

I'll wait for this stuff to come in, and while that's happening I'll get my spare CSF radiator rebuilt locally.

I also snagged a 3FE fan clutch that was scratch and dent for $66 on amazon. AISIN FCT-049

While I was waiting for a few things to happen, I had the injectors serviced and cleaned. I used Fuel Injector cleaning service, flow testing and rebuilding, Injector Rx - https://www.injectorrx.com in Houston. They were really affordable.

I've become such a carb guy, that I had to re-orient myself. I went ultra safe and I'm rebuilding the injector assembles with new cups and o-rings. I'm used to 7psi from the carb giving me no leaks or issues, that when we get above 30psi I don't want any leaks.

I think this and about 12 cans of brake clean on the cold start injector, manifold and ear are in order.

I'm planning for the Rodney Flush now. I consulted one of the cruiser gods @orangefj45 for which ATF fluid to use and the response was "Toyota T-IV Fluid". I was looking at $150-250 for Redline, Castrol or Amsoil synthetic. I'm not enthusiastic about that much money into a transmission that may either work great or shudder no matter what I do.

I took his advice and found out this PN: 00279-000T4-01 its for 1qt of factory dex/merc fluid. I looked online and the prices jumped a bunch, but the shipping on 20 qts plus the possible hazardous material charges were high.

I found a local dealer thanks to @CandyPants who does local pickup. $97 plus tax for 20 quarts wins!

This will give me enough to flush the power steering as well.

After talking with @crtx I'm going to run a $25 a piece magnetic inline filter on both the power steering low pressure side and the transmission low side. https://magnefinefilters.com I read that ford actually used something similar on a post rebuild transmission from their dealers.

I also picked up a 35168-36010 pan gasket for the A440F. This is easily the most stressful part of a new truck. I hate automatics, but I'm going to try and make it work.

......until......water pump.

I learned a lesson on my 60. I'm doing the entire cooling system off the top. ALL OF IT. No hose left behind. I don't play with that stuff. I'll run distilled water off the top for a few weeks and flush it to get all the gunk out.

The top priority is to get the cooling system buttoned up so I can build up heat in the truck and see what else wants to be a problem. The sooner it can cool itself, the better the progress will be.

Ah, ye olde "hack a giant hole in the rear floor to avoid 15 minutes to drop the fuel tank mod"
Yeah, I never understood that one myself...

Nice! Looking forward to the build.

I recently picked up a group 27 battery for my FJ62 from Toyota. 00544-27060-675. I should ask about the 00544-27060-610.

The oem battery is only furthering my geekiness about keeping this truck completely stock. I like it.
