Builds Grey Gardens FJ62LG-PNEA: An idiots guide to resurrecting a high mileage FJ62

I’m very excited. The first bits are coming in.

I’m going to hold off on touching the sensors around the thermostat until I get all the parts to do it all in one move.

I picked up an Aisin Water pump WPT-029 today and I found an Aisin FCT049 fan clutch on sale for $70.

I’m going to run distilled water off the top for a few flushes and then put in Zerex green coolant. I’m also very likely to run the same coolant temp gauge by Koso like I did on my 60. Cheap insurance and peace of mind.

I’ll put it in the upper radiator hose this time.

I’m currently out of the country for work, so this is when I’m most deadly at having random boxes show up at home. Since this is a truck for the lady, it will all work out.

A simple before and after. @js0k worked magic. From no compression, to basically factory.

This truck will only get better with time. I can’t wait to do +10hp with my oil change of champs. I’ll do a 15600-41010 and Delo or rotella this first time out, and then move to the Mobil 1 15w50.

I don’t think 33x10.5 is in its future, but they look good. 30x9.5 is the magic size.

I’m torn between Bilstein 4600’s or 5100’s like the 60. 4600 are more suited to this height out of the box.

This one is surprisingly not saggy. I already dealt with broken suspension at 285k on my truck and I’m not looking forward to lifting another 60 series.

This one was owned by a female school teacher for about the first 25 years of its life. I doubt it’s ever been beat up, except for that Toyota master tech who butchered and broke several things.

The 30" tires on my FJ62 are great! No regrets. Good balance of size and reduced weight so you dont lose too much of that acceleration power. hahaha

It’s mostly there. The blue Advics master tells me it was loved sometime in the past.

Also apparently this truck was in a cool cruisers catalog sometime in the early 2000’s. It had a conn ferr looking roof rack that left some little rust holes on the roof.

I liked the way you built and styled yours. It’s a driving inspiration for me. Literally.
