Can’t remember, did you get the long spline/McNamara gear from Georg?
I did. Its waiting at Coopers shop with a 38mm rebuild kit.

One of the best “while you’re in there’s” I’ve done.

This is my second go around. I only switched to a 5 speed in my 60 because once again, the split case had 300,000 miles on it and was making noises due to a bad output shaft bearing that was killing u joints.

The auto/38mm in the 62 only really has that input gear whine/backlash/humming noise. The outputshaft bearing is not bad like my 60's.

It's gonna be nice to have two trucks with 5 speeds and a lot of similar parts.

I’ve been pleased as punch with mine. It’s awesome for long highway trips.

The next major debate that I have is tire size. This truck will be my wife's most of the time daily.

I need to decide if I want to do 235/75-15 Michelin stock sized tires, 30x9.5 K02/AT3W or 31x10.5 Michelin's.

H55f and 4.11s….I would err to the 31” side. It will look better too. 10.5 runs a little wide on the chromes, but millions of miles have been logged with that combo, I ran it for a long time

What gearing do you have in the diffs? I swapped mine to 4:11 or 4:10… whatever cruiseroutfitters labeled them as.. I’m running 33” ko2s which are closer to 32 on the truck. My speedometer is spot on. I was about 5mph off with the 31”.

I wish they made the ko2 in a 33x9.5x15 The 10.5 bulges ever so slightly and I can feel a bit of side “squish” because they’re not really suppose to go on the OE rims. I’ve been looking at 16” rims for the future. I think the narrow tire will perform better than what I have now.

Small victory. Installed Hella horns to replace the originals. Way better. I used a relay harness.

Oh yeaaaah…. These trucks have a horn. Mine has been broken since I bought it. Need to replace the contact pin. But I also need to refresh my whole steering column.

30 x 9.5 if keeping the stock suspension, and if going BFG AT route, they run a bit small

31s look too big unless lifted.
I really think 30x9.5 is the way. I saw it on this 40 at a dealer and it looks clean and not bulged.

That’s what @4Cruisers runs on his 40 and it looks great.

@HemiAlex see below for what we talked about …. Not that you want 33s on the 62, it being a pavement princess and all.

This is at Priority Tire, I’m sure they’re available elsewhere too.

I like that. I’ll likely end up going with those on the 40.

Good call actually. The 62 will be plenty zippy with those and a 5 speed.
That’s the goal.

If it cruises like a stock truck, that’s fine. We don’t need much above 70 mph.

If you go with a tire this small you may want to think about regearing to 3.7s for the diffs otherwise the 3FE will probably be spinning at least 3k at 70 mph. In flat land Houston 1st gear will be useless, the H55F will essentially become a 4 speed with OD.

I ran the numbers for rpm at 70 mph.

A440F with .71 OD/4.11 and 30” tires: 2320 rpm (current)

H55F with .84 OD/4.11 and 30” tires: 2739
H55F with .84 OD/4.11 and 31” tires: 2651
H55F with .84 OD/4.11 and 32” tires: 2568

H55F with .84 OD/3.70 and 30” tires: 2466
H55F with .84 OD/3.70 and 31” tires: 2386
H55F with .84 OD/3.70 and 32” tires: 2312

H42F with 1:1 4th/4:11 and 30” tires: 3222

Make sure you check the gear lash and bearing preload when you put that gear in. I didn't and mine howls pretty good at high speeds now.
