Hi,
You can get by with the MapSource manager and maps that you either have on the disks supplied with the unit or get your own through Garmin. Make sure that the former owner de-registers the unit as his otherwise you're locked out of everything from Garmin. Once he/she does that, you'll be able to register your unit and down load the latest maps.

Best Regards,

No, you can get by just fine with a free program called EasyGPS (EasyGPS - FREE GPS Software for your Garmin, Magellan, or Lowrance GPS). For roadmaps, you'll want a copy of Garmin's City Navigator NT. Not available used, as it is locked to the GPS you originally installed it on. However, you can use an older copy of Garmin MetroGuide (v6 or v7 can be installed on multiple GPS units). Works the same as City Navigator, except that it doesn't provide routing unless hacked with a copy of MetroGold.

I've been able to load the entire Eastern US and several states' Topos onto a single 2GB card.
