Nice looking set-up.

Speaking of chains, 3rd pic in post 17 kinda looks like you're hooking str8 up: DS to DS?

FWIW, much more better to cross the chains under the hitch -- makes a cradle that catches the nose of the trailer if it comes off the pintle. Much less likely than on a ball hitch, but still... that scratching sound as the trailer tries to attack the truck == NOT GOOD.

thats exactly what i was looking for...but didnt know what they came from. thanks todd! siren..yeah i was only running one chain to the tow point. but once i track down that plate, i'll definitely be crossing them over..

yep, those are the ones i ordered. great price too! however, for some reason, the dust cap that came with em didnt fit the drums after i got it all buttoned up. perhaps the axle/castle nut protruded further preventing it from fitting properly. i ended up using the oem dust cap.

Nice job, sonny!

She looks great. I haven't attacked mine yet but will be following a similar path.

Trailier lights

I noticed you have the military lights. What did you do make the lights run off of 12 volt? And did you have to do anything to the light's wiring to run off the factory towing harness? thanks.

You talkin' to me?

If so, my truck is 24 volt, I just carry it back.

These trailers are 24 volt spec.

Kim , my question is for Doubledown but thanks anyway. We both have '80s

i bought the trailer as is...with the 4-flat connector already there. it looks like the 4 flat box was spliced into the 24V wiring. however, the PS light doesnt work for either braking or signaling. the PO still has the original 24V round plug, but im thinking about ditching the wiring for it and just running a brand new harness. have yet to investigate..maybe its just a loose connection somewhere...hopefully.

was able to score a pair of 295/75/16 bfg AT's for the trailer. i ditched the mismatch 315's since they stuck out quite a bit more than i really wanted, and no fender extensions are presently in the works. the 315's were also more of a street tread, and i wanted something more off road. the 295's are about .7" shorter than the 80's 315's...but i feel i should be able to use them as a 2ns/3rd spare in a pinch.

was able to take it out a couple weeks ago for a camping trip, and it chased the 80 perfectly. new fan clutch = no overheating on uphill stretches. even had the AC going most of the time. through the trails, the trailer followed with no issues, going over obstacles with ease. anyone thinking about not having matching tire sizes with the tow rig should reconsider. it follows the truck much easier...which puts less strain on the payload and tow rig.

pretty much done with it now, all thats left besides reworking the lights are adding dual 5gallon fuel tank mounts, and a 20# propane mount. the 2 cans will mount in front of the fenders and the propane tank will mount somewhere on the tongue...probably in the A frame area.

here it was on 315's
