Sorry to hear that. My moldings are glued down and no rivets like yours. I was going to leave it alone until I had to replace the windshield, but now I am worried about rust. Why would gluing the molding cause rust?

I was hoping to be able to tape the holes or use silicone as a quick fix.

Just based on what I saw, looks like dirt and debris collected in one spot and caused the rust. Also, the rivets seal the back of the hole they go in and keep air and water from intruding into the a-pillar. It was a pretty sloppy job. The rust had creeped past the molding into the paint on the a-pillar which also got my attention in addition to the wind noise.

Looks like I need to get the windshield leaks fixed sooner rather than later. I am getting significant leakage on the interior A-pillar in addition to the wind noise.

I will probably remove the trim first to better assess the damage. Is there any harm in doing this and driving the truck (in dry weather)?

The glass shop I called said there is a 99% chance of breakage during removal. I find that hard to believe, but in reality I have no idea. Problem is, there really is no benefit for them to save the glass, only risk. It's in their best interest to start with new glass.

Any tips or tricks to getting the molding and windshield out without damage?

Eric. I went with Safelite. I called a couple of people that were suggested by Lexus/Toyota. These were fellas that were working alone and were a small company. I liked the idea of Safelite being a deep pocket national brand company in case anything went wrong with the windshield during install or later down the line. I was able to watch the entire process as I stood next to the installer and asked as many questions that I could think of and took pictures. I asked for rivets and they installed rivets. I was told they would install glass that was made in the east coast U.S.A. Nope. Chinese made. It was a good experience. $300

I need to get my windshield fixed too. It has wind noise when driving at high speed. I have called a few places but I havent made up my mind who is locally can do this correctly - I am in Lexington KY. Thats a good point that Safelite is a national brand company incase something went wrong.

Well it seems the insurance wont cover OEM glass, even though I have OEM glass in there now  My glass company of choice is going to submit an itemized quote for insurance to review, but I am getting the feeling that they are only going to pay Safelite prices (about $200 less).

So I have some questions now:

Does Toyota make their own glass, or is it relabeled? Who makes it? I would prefer to get the OEM company, even if it's not labeled Toyota.

The parts diagram from Toyota shows three moldings, one on either side and one across the top, as well as the garnish on either side. Insurance only says the one molding on top is required and the other pieces are reusable? Is this true? I may have to pay for the other two moldings and both garnish out of pocket.

Anyone know of a specific Safelite installer in the San Diego area with experience with the 100 series? If I have to go with Safelite I would like to request someone with specific experience vs rolling the dice.

Thanks in advance.
