I’ve been building Toyotas for a while now. Building with my checkbook, rather than my hands. This is my best work. I’ve had a 2006 DC Tundra, lifted just right. I’ve had a 1997 Land Cruiser with about $30,000 in parts alone that was the most capable rig I’d ever driven, but it was too nice to crawl to its capabilities and boringly easy otherwise. I had to give up my stubborn fight to daily drive it as well. I decided on a 4runner, but not just any 4runner. I sought out a 5th gen 4runner - the best one ever built. It has the timeless 4.0L NA V6, the TRD Offroad premium package, with a manual transfer case lever and all the offroad goodies including: locking rear diff, multi-terrain select and crawl control. It also has KDSS. If you don’t like KDSS, I implore you to better understand it and seek out companies that make parts that cooperate it with it. My rock sliders and rear trac bar are specially made for KDSS, the latter of which gives me 1” more rear articulation than someone without KDSS.
This 4runner has been hand washed by me on a regular basis; your detailer will notice with its “missing” automatic car wash paint swirls. It receives ceramic spray on wax after each wash, in between proper ceramic coatings. It is the newest car you can buy without all the new tech I can’t stand, like assisted braking, lane keep assist, and radar cruise. It’s old school, but it’s new. It’s reliable. It’s Toyota before the EPA ruined it.
The seats are pristine underneath the saddle blanket covers, I’ll prove it to you once I know you’re a serious buyer. I have two standard poodles, and while they don’t shed their dusty footprints look terrible on a black interior. The car still smells new.
Aside from installing the lift and custom alignments, I’m the only one that has maintained this 4runner. At 35,000 I changed out the oils in the front diff, rear diff, and transfer case. I change the engine oil every 5,000 miles with mobil 1 full synthetic and Toyota filters. I’ve given in to the argument that while the oil may be able to last 10,000 miles, it’s what’s collected in the oil you want out sooner.
I bought this vehicle from Carvana August of 2020 with only 3,476 miles on it. No, that’s not a typo. It spent its first few months in Hawaii, a place that’s difficult to rack up high miles. It was perfect. Not a single thing wrong with it. PO had modified the front grill to look like a TRD PRO and it was bone stock otherwise. I still have the original grill if you want it. For that matter, I have all the original parts if you want them, shocks, struts, springs, UCAs, even running boards and head unit.
I spent the next year collecting parts for the perfect build. It was COVID and everyone had the same idea, so you had to wait months for parts. Within 13 months it was completely built and I’ve been driving it this way for the past 3 years. It’s the best compromise of on-road and offroad that you’ll find. I average 17 miles per gallon and can run Broken Arrow in Sedona with ease. I can fly down the highway, um, slightly north of 65mph. It drives beautifully through Salt River Canyon as well.
When it’s not out having fun or running to Costco or Old Man Soccer games, it sits in the garage. I work from home, which has allowed the car to remain in its pristine condition.

I could go on, but I won’t. I got a new job and need something else that’s better for a longer commute. I’ll regret selling this one, just like I do all the others, but it’s time for someone else to enjoy it. Apologies to my daughter who can’t yet afford this one. She really wanted my 80 series too. One of these days…one of these rigs, will be yours.
You know the drill: cash or cashier’s check. Title is free and clear. Carfax is on you if you want one. VIN available on request. Zero accidents of any kind.
