What gives with GIANT area of the dash in front of the passenger? I don't understand why there is not at least one glovebox in that area, or better yet two like the LR3. Is there something important behind the void, or is this a styling over ergonomics thing that is lost on me?

Thoughts?

The airbag that blows out of the top needs a place to live. It is a bit unfortunate in design but I'm sure people will add little do-dads to make use of that area.
The rest looks nice tho :)

I like the flat expanse of a dash up there. I also hate the LR3...... Land Rovers biggest mistake!

:flipoff2:

just cover it with velcro and stick your cell phone, wallet, whatever to it

an IH8MUD sticker would fit there ;)

In reference to the I hate the LR3, regardless to your opinion, which is uninformed and inaccurate, having 2 glove boxes as well as a ledge to put things is quite nice. I'm sure someone will market a device not unlike the product that toyota has for the back door to use as an organizer. I understand that the airbag needs a home, but unless this airbag is 20ft in diameter, there is plenty of wasted room that would be available for storage. I still like the FJ, in fact I am so impressed I am picking one up in the am, it just bugs me.

I digress.

off topic---Back to the LR3, if I hadn't purchased a Supercharged Range Rover prior to driving the LR3, I would not have spent the extra money on the Range Rover. My friend has had 2 series two discos, and I have had countless Range Rovers and Defenders, and I can say the LR3 is a great truck. I am sure it compromises the hard core, die hard off-road crowd who fear change , but it is very solid and nice to drive.

Hey Shannon, the double middle finger smiley was in FUN, not meant to be offensive. Anyway I am sure the LR3 is a great vehicle, but I just didn't like the way it looks. As you see by my signature, I also own a Land Rover, so I am not biased against them. I like the new Range Rover Sport better than the full size Range Rover - mostly because I like the body styling much more.

Back to the FJ, it reminds me of a cross between a Land Cruiser and a Hummer when I sit inside it. Lots of dash space for me means lots of room to put more gadgets or lay maps on etc. Look at it as real estate to exploit !

good point

You make a good point, no offense meant. There has to be something of importance behind that large expanse. Agreed on the cross between a hummer and land cruiser reference, I think it is due to the wind screen being wide and forward. Someone, maybe you, needs to pull the dash apart and see what if anything is behind the large void.

My eight year old daughter asked me what car was buying. I told her an FJ Cruiser, and she asked me if it was related to a PT Cruiser. I elaborated and she now knows, but a fair question given to similarity.

Well Shannon there is a HUGE area behind that where you can store all non-essential personel on board..... like back seat drivers!

:D:D

By the way, I am going to Big Bend this weekend for some off road fun, and check out some of the surrounding areas. I wish I was taking the FJ Cruiser, but I don't have it yet so I guess I'll just slum it in the Land Rover.........

I vote for the LCD display but you could keep it simple with a grab bar or even ghetto fabulous with a custom storage space using an 40 series glovebox door......
