I am still sorting the mileage thing out. The best I have ever gotten is 16 on the freeway.
I average 12 around town on a good week. 8-10 lately.
Things I am looking at are: vacuumn leaks--gradually replacing all old, dried or obviously leaking hose, Carb cleaned and properly adjusted--eventually I plan to have it rebuilt. Tune up: valve adjustment, new (properly gapped) plugs and wires, and the timing/idle setting. I try to stay on top of these. Tire pressure is supposed to play a role in this.
Recently my mileage has worsened some. I think my clutch may be slipping. Not sure if that plays a role or not.
I may have a compression issue too. Basically I don't expect great mileage. Though I'm trying to learn how to maximze it. I'm glad I live within a mile or so of work and own a bicycle. I try save my gas for trips. Driving style helps too: default mode=lift your foot. coast alot
I've also heard a faulty or old throttle cable can have an effect. I want to replace my choke and throttle assembly soon. I have suspected them for some time. Lots of factors.
Fastboat-add some 33', then swap lower gears, & add a bunch of other junk=worse!
No what barry mentioned is correct, try tuning up the motor, plugs, wires, rotor button, fuel filter, air filter, those type of things may help but truly its a LARGE hunk of metal & fuel eco. is not its stong suit, but wait it will last forever!
