Gonna be rebuilding my front axle in the upcoming weeks seeing how im leaking gear oil like the Deepwater Horizon.

Has anyone ever rebuilt one themselves and have any suggestions/tips? My friend and I are doing it and he has experience rebuilding one, so I'm pretty confident about it.

The only other thing im considering is doing the OME 2.5 heavy duty lift at the same time of the rebuild.

I'm going with this kit:
Knuckle Service Kit for FJ80 | Marlin Crawler, Inc.

With these also:
Front Wheel Bearings | Marlin Crawler, Inc.

Lots of gloves, lots of shop towels, an affinity for getting messy, and patience. It's an easy job, just a little time consuming, and did I say messy.

Their is a DVD somewhere for rebuilding the 80 knuckles that you may want to purchase.

I don't think I would tackle the lift the same day. Too many things can go wrong to set you back between the knuckles and suspension. Take it one at a time.

Good luck,
Jeremy

The axle rebuild is not hard but it is messy (like mentioned above).I did discover that disposible diapers will hold a lot more grease than shop towels. The axles take some time, especially cleaning everything.

The lift is a 2-3 hour max job. I dont see it being any easier with the axle apart.

give me a shout if ya need help ive done it before its easy but messy

Wow, I'll try and look for it but if you have a link for that, send it my way, I'd certainly like to get a hold of that.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I guess I'll hold off on the lift during the rebuild, especially if its only a 2-3 hours job.

10-4, and thanks. I'll post up here when we plan on doing it. I already told my friend who is helping out that cold beers and food of choice is on the schedule.
