Im sick and have too much times on my hands, so im making my wallet thinner.

Anyhoo, this is too funny.

Winchdepot.com is owned by 4wheelparts. I just called 4 wheel parts and asked them to match a price from winch depot. They did. They didnt mention anything about them owning the other company.

I went back on winchdepot's site and noticed the phone number was 714 area code. For the heck of it, i called them. They answered "4wheelparts" lol

No wonder they could match the price lol

If anyone needs a winch , the winchdepot pricing is cheaper :D :D

Lol, thanks for the tip but I already have my winch. :D :flipoff2:

I wish 4wp would drop the price on the M12000 like they have on the m8000.

Yeah , i had the m12000 in my shopping cart ready to check out and said ... you know what.. i dont need that... .. it's nearly 400 bucks more.. so i opted for the m9000 instead. I dont play in mud or rocks hardly that much.. it will work fine.

9000? Typo? I know the 8000 and 12000 require no mods at all for our ARB, but the rest of the WARN line does.

I threw in a MileMarker 9500 that I got for $450 at 4Wheel Parts. The only mod I had to make was to fab a simple plate to mount the control box to the USPS frame rail just behind the winch and on top of the ARB where it slides over the frame horn for mounting. Don't even have to clock the housing for clutch arm clearance. Cost about $0 as i had a scrap piece laying around. Warn makes good stuff for sure but if the military can trust MileMarker's that is good enough for me. I couldn't justify the additional $400 with my current budget.

I usually follow the 1 1/2 times the vehicle weight rule for a winch rating. That puts me just a bit higher and I carry a good supply of accessories and if I need the greater pulling power to defeat mud suction or leverage on a big vertical rock I have a snatch block. I am also not stupid enough to go into a huge mud hole where I am too far away from an anchor point to use the snatch block, unless I have someone else with me to help save my but and the winch is not my only means of salvation. :D

I'll follow the 'Be Prepared' motto from BSA and go overkill with the M12000 when I can afford it.

Ok, just got off the phone with ARB. Here's the dealio.

The only Warn winch that works properly is the 12k.

Both the 8k and the 9k have to use a 1/2" spacer kit you can buy from ARB. The winch sits too close to the front of the 'back' of the bumper. So you space it out.

Im ordering the kit from Mike up there @ ARB.

just use a couple of washers, dang it...!

Go back to Central CA. :flipoff2:

...Central...like Center...like Center of the Universe... Oh, you mean West Hollywood :grinpimp:

edit: I am not from CA. To me the "center" is around Sacramento. Northern CA starts north of Sonoma. Southern CA starts south of Ventura.

edit edit: Technical content relevant to thread...the M12000 is surely overkill for 99% of folks. I think with some fine synthetic line and some rigging you'll never regret it. The M12000 is A LOT heavier than those smaller winches as well and all that weight off the front starts adding up and hindering you.

We could always just send him to Santa Monica Blvd, but West Hollywood or perhaps certain establishments in Laguna Beach with a name like our beloved leader's board name here would work too! hehehe

Woody - just don't go to Woody's in LB unless you want to explore alternate livestyles.

My edit - Santa Barbara I'd consider the southern edge of the 'Central Coast' of CA - at least that's what the wine makers want us to buy in to. Your definition is better tho!

Mo, they're charging me $28.00 and they're 1 solid 1/2" piece instead of a ton of washers... that i think would get crushed under pull. We'll see. I may change my mind over night and not call ARB in the AM. Who knows, i might even cancel the order for the 9k and go all out for the 12k tomorrow too.

Man for a couple bucks you could buy some 1/4" steel stock drill some holes and voila! 9000 lbs of pressure wouldn't even phase them. But that is just me. :D

Seems odd that the bigger 12k winch fits but the smaller 9k needs spacers.

Yeah i would do the same thing Mo.. but i dont have a place to do it right now. The reason why the 12k works and the others needs spacers is because thats the correct winch to use for the application. So the bumper was made with that winch motor in mind. Apparently the winch motors stick out differently on the 8k and 9k.

Anyhoo, i found a brand new in box Warn M12000 on craigslist im picking up on Monday for $900. Smokin' deal :flipoff2: And i called and cancelled the XD9000 this morning.

Only thing I can figure is that the motor is longer and smaller in diameter on the smaller ones and hits where the bumper angles backward toward the sides. IIRC mine was really close there.

Glad you got the smoking deal brother. I do want to know how you are funding this build and how I can get in on it. :flipoff2:

The smaller winches have a smaller frame, that in turn makes the motor sit too close to the bumper where it is starting to angle back to the supports. THe ARB was designed to fit the M10000 which shares the frame and motor with the M12000. I helped Alvaro install an M8000 on his and it only takes about 4 washers on each bolt to space it out enough. If you use hardened washers, you will never crush them since they are better metal than the winch or the bullbar.

I thought there was another problem with the 9500 series that prevented them from fitting.

Re North/South-I would like to divide the state just south of Fresno. You guys keep Bakersfield, we keep Fresno. (pretty fair!) Then we each have a poor relation to joke about. Any way you slice it though, e9999 is YOURS.

oh yea! with the :censor: in San Fran, and the :censor: :censor: in Sac, I'm staying South... no doubt :D

(I have to say though that Northern Cal is OK. Just the middle that is completely :censor: ...)
