FYI, see pic for what happens to a Fumoto Valve if it is torqued over 22 ft. lbs.

This is notable because most, if not all, late model Toyota trucks spec 30 ft. lbs. of torque for the oil drain plug.

So, if your vehicle has one of these, beware, either it is only torqued to 18 ft. lbs. (about 1/8-1/4 beyond hand tight), or it is most likely stripped.

They can be torqued with a crow's foot, but if you torque them to the vehicle's spec, there is a high likelihood that you have a Fumoto with stripped threads installed.

Nothing against folks who swear by them, but I opted to toss the one I tried to install and have no intention of installing one on any of my Toyota trucks again.

The Fumoto valves have a hollow core brass shaft with a soft polymer or fiber gasket, versus OEM steel plugs with a metal gasket. It makes sense to me to follow Fumoto's torque spec, versus Toyota's. It does not surprise me that the softer threads deformed when over torqued.
