How does one tell when their fuel pump is on the way out. lately with the aircon on, shes a little more sluggish than usual, which is a lot since shes a lumbering cow to begin with. I still love her.....

Andrew: you don't have a fuel pump per se on your 1HZ engine. Your injection pump acts as the fuel pump in terms of getting it from the fuel tank to your IP to your engine.

The IP itself has a sort of a pump to build pressure and get fuel from the tank to the IP but at this point, if it hasn't been addressed, would not be surprised if your IP just needs an overhaul.

It is the heart and most important component of your 1HZ.

Of course, there could easily be other issues as well.

Thanks Onur, appreciate the schooling on the terminology, ive got a 180K on the clock and need to check with the paperwork to see if it had been done before. I know the injectors were rebuilt when it got here.

Are there telltale signs that point to an IP needing service? Ill switch to email so we can chat if thats a service you provide (rebuilding the injection pump)

Thanks again brother

feeling sluggish?
How's smoke out the tail pipe?
When did you change a fuel filter last?

Start with basics first. IP rebuild is a big ticket item, and may not be an issue.
There's plenty running around untouched with higher mileage.

Check filters, air and fuel, are they fresh?
Is air intake free of obstructions? Some cruisers have a cyclonic dust separator in the intake inside the guard that can block up with leaves etc
Is exhaust clear?
Is the screen on the fuel pick up in the tank clear?

Has the injection timing being checked?
Have the injectors been tested?

Most of these are zero or low $$ things to tick off first if you haven't already

No smoke, without the AC she feels fine. It was the first time since last year using it so maybe it needed to run for a bit to loosen up. Fuel filter is changed every other oil change and its not been too dirty, oil changes are 5 k kms

Filters are good, changed the air last month and the fuel as above, this oil change its due. the snorkel has a ram head, have not moved to a Donaldson type yet. I scoped the snorkel and i didnt see anything in line. Injectors were refurbed last year so im good on that. I will have to look at timing and the fuel pickup. I have always suspected the aux tank to have less oomph with the but dyno, and thats what im running on now and when the issue occured.

Thanks for the replies, i have a good starting point.
