This is the unit that works with any Alpine "XM ready" or "Sat ready" head units- allows you to tune the XM right from the radio, and gives the best possible sound quality.

Includes both pieces, antenna, wiring, everything needed to get setup, and it's really simple to install.

It's this piece:

This piece: (mine is for Alpine, but it looks the same)
Amazon.com: Terk Satelliete Radio/Kenwood XM Direct Smart Digital Adapter: Electronics

Asking $60

Hey Rich, I am pretty interested in this, if someone comes along and waves cash at you first I understand but I have been wanting XM in my head unit. (Was doing the roady thing)

Any suggestions on an Alpine Head unit reasonable? What I 'want' is basically CD / MP3 ability and I think usb on the front would be interesting or SD card.

This is for the 80, the goal will be to replace the 8 speakers in the truck with nicer units (not audiophile tho...so good, not nesc great/$$$$ stuff) and I will be replacing the 'woofer' in the rear with a sub/amp to drive it with.

I am wanting a single din unit because i picked up a CB to go in the lower part of the din.

Anyway, if someone else beats me to it, cash talks BS walks, so no problem, otherwise I will try to pick this up / want to find the right head unit etc to go with it.

I'm not sure how many Alpine's have USB on the front, I know some have it on the back, a simple extension would take care of that...

But I was in the same boat.. I picked up a used 30GB Ipod for exactly that purpose, and though I'm very anti-apple, it's working out well.. using the playlists with the Alpine's built-in controls is niiice, the ipod just goes in the glovebox.

Looks like every Alpine head unit can control an Ipod directly, but I'd go at least for a CDE-9881, which I think is last year's model, you can probably get one with the ipod cable for under $150 shipped.. but for just a few bucks more, look at the CDE-9884, it's really versatile and upgradable, it'll run you about $175 with the ipod cable..

Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. - CDA-9884

They're all good quality, you just get a nicer display / more bells & whistles as you go higher up..
