I installed a Rough Country 6 inch lift about a week ago in my brand new 2008 FJ. Included in the kit were new spindles, which I swapped over my stock wheel bearings and hardware. After driving the truck for about a week (less than 150 miles) I discovered that I have play in the front hubs I can move the tire/hub assembly about a 1/8".....

When re-assembling the front axle shaft I used an impact wrench to tighten the 35 mm axle nut, rather than getting my torque wrench and setting the nut to factory specs.

Now that I found play in the front hub, is it possible that I just need to tighten the axle nut tighter? or did I wipe the hub bearings?

The truck has a total of 500 miles on thr odometer... I installed the lift kit last week and drove less than 150 miles...

I guess I'm asking is it possible that it would be normal to have play in the front hub bearings if the axle nut wasn't torqued enough?

Bad idea. You pretty much answered your own question.

didnt the kit give you the torque spec? I'm not positive but its around 150 ft lbs probably double what you'll get on an impact unless your got a real good compressor

Larry--I don't know the mechanicals of FJCs, but I've never seen a wheelbearing on any car that can be adjusted with an impact. Best case, you just set it loose, and it needs to be set to spec. Worse case, you over-tightend the wheelbearings and caused them to burn up/loosen. You have to tear it down now and take a look. I hope you just set it wrong to begin with. Good luck.

Time to take it apart. The only way you will be able to answer you question is to look at it.

I haven't seen a wheel bearing that needed to be set on a vehicle since they started putting speed sensors on each wheel. The bearings are a sealed unit and tightening the axle nut does nothing to the "setting" of the wheel bearing.
