I'm trying to figure out the the best front 3" spacer lift for an '05 tundra stepside. There are two types of spacers for the front coils. Spacers that go on top of the spring/shock assembly and those that go on top of the spring. The spring spacers increase the pre-load and stiffen up the ride, the assembly spacers just add height.

I only want to pre-load the springs slighty so I plan to use a 1.5" thick spacer on top of the springs. What size spacer should I then use on the top of the assembly to equal 3" of lift. I've noticed that the top spacers are not a 1:1 ratio for lift, meaning a 1.5" spacers provides something like 2" of lift. Is that also true for the spring spacers? I'm confused.

I would not run two spacers. I ran the spacer that goes on top of the spring and it did incease the pre-load. slightly. It was the 3" spacer lift, but I only got about 2.5" of actual lift and it was perfect. The ride was great and the truck sat level, maybe a tad nose high (but I seemed to be the only one that noticed it lol) Check out Wheelers Off Road....

How thick was the spacer you used?

I think he answered it.

Not quite there Luke. I did email that shop a while back and they did tell me the actual thickness of the plates. That along with spdshift's info gives me a pretty good idea of what to expect. I just wanted to make sure I don't get to high that the cv's are stressed and there more preload than I want. I don't see any issue with using a combination of the two spacers. The top assembly spacer primarily for hight and the spring spacer for preload/hight. The added preload should compensate for lift while not making the ride to unpleasent. This is going to be a 99.9% road truck.
