I just change my front diff gear oil about 2000 miles but it looks like choc. milk already...I know my front knuckles need a rebuild and are leaking. But is that big of a deal that it looks like that already? I will be doing knuckle rebuild this winter but intil than its going to stay like that. So should I change out the fluid already or just leave it be til I do the re-build? I'm almost pos. that it looks like that because of the grease in the knucles are getting past the seal. Having that grease floating around that bad?

thanks,
-Al

You mean you didn't do the knuckle rebuild when you did the SOA? So that means you didn't cut and turn your knuckles, correct? Did you relocate your breathers because you could be getting water in the housing in those Fla swamps! Ain't nockin' ya, just lookin for info, my SOA is comin....... :) Also, quick fix for the choc. milk is just to replace the seal which doesn't involve tearing apart the whole knuckle, but if you're already in there........ you know the rest. Hope you're out wheelin or surfin or     - Josh

i just got done rebuilding my knuckles and the thick oil was one of the symptoms. the only thing that is bad about the gear oil and the grease that i can see is that the oil washes the grease off of the birfield and the bearings and then when it sits it drips off leaving the normally greased things ungreased and that causes wear. mine wasn't completely washed away, but i definately don't think there was enough grease where there should have been. i'd just schedule a saturday and get 'er done. it sucks knowing that something is wrong and speculating on what damage that may cause. on the other hand, it feels real good knowing that you're all lubed up and ready to go. that goes for all scenarios. hehe.

hey Josh,

Nope dint do a knuckle job when i did the SOA becuase of lack of funds. As for the cut~n~turn i was not totally sold on it. I talked to a bunch of people that did not cut and turn and they said they really could not tell a diff. from there rig and there friends that have done it. Also the LWB cruisers we are ridding help out a ton. to tell you the truth it handles much better now than it ever did sprung under. HAHA as for the breathers we (al&jeremy) we ran breathers with filters up into the 40 and 60 today. I found a hole in my front diff breather so i might have been getting water in there. but i let it sit since yesturday and drained it for a sec and did not see any water come out. (water comes out first) So i think it just looks like choc milk from the grease from my knuckles...

Josh, i heard ya peeled you door back at CMCC. any pics????

later brother, take care of that 60
