front axle rebuild

Hello all. First time posting in this section.

Just want to know if anyone in here has done the front axle rebuild on the 80. The DS on my '95 is leaking and I am in need of help. If anyone knows how and willing go help out a cruiser fan, please let me know. Thanks.

Since you are in Seattle, you should check out the Seattle Cruiserheads. They get together once a month and do that sort of thing. Plus there are a lot of knowledgeable guys to help you out. That being said, if you are not able to hook up with any of them, I am down in Olympia and can help you out with questions and the like.

I've rebuilt the front end on my 80 and it wasn't that painful, just took a while to get old grease cleaned out, repack birfs/bearing and put everything back together with new seals.

Thanks for the offer. I don't have specific question at the moment. I've read the FAQ and still acquiring all the necessary parts. Here's what I have bought so far:

1. rebuild kit from cdan w/54mm socket
2. cleaner/degreaser
3. rolls of blue towel
4. borrowed breaker bar

I'm going to buy fluid and grease today or tomorrow. The kit will arrive on Thursday, according to cdan.

I have not done things like this before and just lack confidence. Also, I need to get this back running this week cause I need transportation, so the pressure is on.

What other tools/things will I be needing?

Do you have the Factory Service Manual or other quality instructions? Are you doing trunnion bearings too or just the seal kit? Make sure you keep all the shims in the proper location. Get some plastic sandwich bags to put the nuts/bolts in and a pen to identify them.

I believe the kit from cdan includes the trunnions bearings. I don't have the FSM, just the FAQ from here.
