Well I've been hearing this noise for a little bit (even @ the summit) but it's now progressively gotten worse :( I assumed it was the steering knuckle and just needed some grease but noooo we just took a look @ it and the noise is coming from my drivers side CV boot...did I bend something? Going to take a look @ it on monday up on a lift but just wondering if anyone has heard this before? sounds like really loud creaking, not good, it vibrates the entire vehicle through the floor board arghhhhhhh!!! hoping for the best but who knows:mad: Any help would deeply be appreciated!!!! here is some info I found

Alright looks like I'm in need of a new CV arghhhh!!!! found this info right here!!
Constant Velocity Joints, Part 2: Service & Repair

A humming or growling noise. Sometimes due to inadequate lubrication in either the inner or outer CV joint, this symptom is more often due to worn or damaged wheel bearings, a bad intermediate shaft bearing on equal length halfshaft transaxles, or due to worn shaft bearings within the transmission.

My next question is what to do, I have a toyota resource through my work but will have to pay for the part @ cost, or do I put up a fit with the dealer and try to get it taken care of by warranty. as you all know I'm lifted with plenty of aftermarket parts installed. I'm a damn good debater also....should I put up a fight and do any of you have some good lines to tell the stealer? I swear this happened while not offroading also!!!!! HELP S.O.S!!!!!

Legally they have prove the modifications caused the problem before they can void the warrantee, but without knowing exactly what the problem is, it’s hard to say what cased it. I'd see if you connection can try to get it done under warrantee, and if not, at least get you the discounted parts.

does it pop and make more noise when you turn? usually a bad cv will make the most noise when you turn, as the bearings bind up and 'pop'
is the boot torn and leaking?

don't just assume it's one thing, really look at everything. good luck!

Lifted IFS=Higher CV operating angles=Not much "proof" required=Dealer likely giving you this  when you try to get CV replaced under warranty.

Well I took it into the dealer and they were unable to find anything???? WTF!!! It makes a humming noise and it never had before the service manager is saying thats the noise from the tires but it's not. They checked the steering also and put it up on a lift arghhhhhh if I break down on hells revenge in moab @ the end of this month they are getting the bill damnit!!!!!! They also have been selling the vehicle with a revtek lift so if they weren't going to cover it I was going to have some backing for my war :flipoff2:ohhh well. I think i will do some hard trails this weekend and see if it worsens :D

Anyone else have any input???

Nope only in a stationary position while moving the steering wheel back and forth..the noise is freaking load also:(
boot looks great and noooo leaking thank god so there is grease in there. I didn't assume it was one thing when I brought it in they looked @ the steering also damn this!!!! With a lift I guess you purchase the noises too.

Umm the freaking noise is still there and louder than ever:( I went wheeling last night for the meteor shower and while in 4 low and reversing you can REALLY hear it:( Buehler?? anyone??? HELP HELP HELP!!!!! I'm taking it back to the dealer that said they couldn't find what was wrong tomorrow, since now the noise is very defined. Before it wasn't as bad when I brought it in..this has to be a bearing or something arghhhhhhhhh

First of all, you know it's not smart to go wheeling when you know there may be a serious problem. That is asking for trouble. daycare over- ;)

what does it sound like specifically? maybe your power steering is bad? If the sound occurs moving the steering wheel w/ stationary, it makes me think this:

-not drivetrain, since you are not moving.
-possibly blown cv inside a clean boot-but I don't know what the sound you are hearing is.
-steering pump or bad ends- check the tre's and ps fluid- are you low? is it cooked? leaking? etc
-

I know it's not smart but I wanted to hear the noise while in 4 wd so we went out looking for meteors the other night..man the noise was horrendous....didn't go too far I'm not a dumby......well maybe I am since I took it into the dealer this morning and blammmmo it's my damn UCA from allpro....I forgot to grease it and we received a lot of rain arghhhh. I'm so good on maintenance I just missed this one damn it..well problem fixed and got a good laugh out of it from the service tech:lol: Lesson learned people
