I just did an oil change on the 06 GX and while taking the used oil back to the parts store the oil lamp came on. When I pulled into the garage there was oil all over the undercarriage and everywhere under the hood! It looked like someone dumped 5 gallons of oil all over the engine. I pulled the skid guard off and right away noticed the filter was super loose and I know for sure that I tightened it properly. Tried to tighten it back on but the threads were stripped. Went back and got a motorguard filter and upon comparison the threads on the motorguard were roughly 1/4" to 5/16ths vs the Fram that was 3/16ths. Drove it 200 miles yesterday with no problems, very strange stuff! Perhaps the threads were faulty? Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else, it was an incredible mess!

Definitely never run Frams on anything :).

IMO, OEM Toyota/Denso filters are the best way to go on the 2UZ. You can usually pick them up for $5-6 each at your local dealer. They are quite a bit cheaper than most "good" aftermarket filters (i.e., Wix, Napa, Mobil 1) and maybe $1 more than a Fram. I buy them 5-6 at a time. No reason to skimp on filters when real Toyota ones are so cheap.

I agree with Rednexus. The Toyota filters are, oddly, quite competitive in price. I have found them sold at Walmart and Farm & Fleet as well. No reason not to use them.

Beware of Amazon filters. Some are counterfeit. It's best to source from a dealer or a physical store.
