Floor to frame seal

I am rebuilding a '92 RJ73 and after I separated the body from the frame I noticed two sponge-like parts attached to the frame that were in a bad shape. Does anyone know what is their purpose? Can leave the car without them or should I replace them with something else? They seem impossible to find, nobody has them in stock, although some sites have prices for them.
