Considering the AVIC-Z1 Nav/Traffic in-dash system for my FJ Cruiser,.... has anyone done the install?

Thanks for any assistance!

Pioneer AVIC-Z1 Nav/Traffic System

Yes,... I saw the Eclipse install, and the photos are a big help in disassembly.

I'm still pricing the the Z1, and am finding that all the "Pioneer Navigation Certified Stores" like Best Buy, Crutchfield, Car Toys, Circuit City & Tweeter, all want full retail for the basic Z1 with no adapters, harnesses or installation,.... $2,250!

They're as cheap as $350 on eBay from who-knows-where in Europe, and around $1,600 from Power Sellers on eBay. But, I haven't gotten clarification from Pioneer if their warranty will be affected if I buy it from these sources and have my local PNCS install it. Or, if I install it.

Also, it dawned on me last night that the FJ Jammer radio that I remove from the FJC might fit my Tacoma?

Anybody have some insight?

Maintz,
Check to see if the euro NAV units are actually functional here in the USA... I seem to remember there might be some compatibility issue (tho I am not sure on this).

The FJC radio is a 2din right? It will fit the Taco w/ a Schosche (or similar) dash trim kit for the Tacoma.

Also look on Siennaclub (the minivan forum) as they do extensive and detailed work on NAV installs and all things AV-bling related.
Good luck!

I'm ready for my husband to buy and install mine, but he seems to be spending money on too many other toys and his 40 that he is restoring. He promised me this one though.:D

I installed the Z1 in mine back in May, not much to taking the dash apart and there is plenty of room back there, I have my XM brain under the dash pocket as well as the bluetooth module, and my ipod adapter routed to the glove box...if you have any questions let me know

Also the Z1 has an easy bypass for video in motion and full system features while in motion...just flip the parking lights on when you see the white text telling you it is starting up

Thanks for the offer,... I'm guessing I'll pester you considerably before I finish this ordeal. I'm checking on the factory warranty if I buy from a US internet seller, and have been getting conflicting info. Also debating having a Pioneer certified store do the install,... getting estimates between $450-625!!

1) My biggest concern is the wiring. I assume you used the harness kit for the FJC (Pioneer p/n ADT-VA133, I think)? Was the wiring instruction easy to follow?
2) What trim package did you use to finish out?
3) Were you able to keep the existing vol/channel/mode switches on the steering wheel functional?
4) Did you install the steering wheel remote (Pioneer p/n CD-SR1)? If so, do you recommend?

I'm planning on the bluetooth adapter, rear-view camera, and steering wheel remote. I would love a MP3 input/adapter, but Pioneer apparently doesn't offer such.

Thanks again for any guidance! Maintz

Those prices are outrageous...it is nothing more than a radio install...except you have to hook up VSS and reverse, just ground the parking brake

Instructions? LOL....wiring is straight forward, just match the colors, I used the Metra 70-1761
2) What trim package did you use to finish out?
I used Metra 95-8202, however I think scosche has a kit out that actually slants so that it is flush with the dash
3) Were you able to keep the existing vol/channel/mode switches on the steering wheel functional?
All functions of the steering wheel remote work, used a PAC SWI-PS
4) Did you install the steering wheel remote (Pioneer p/n CD-SR1)? If so, do you recommend? I did not since I retained the factory, dont see the need

There is an additional audio input so you can attach a stereo to rca cable to use with your mp3 or other audio source

Thanks again for any guidance! Maintz

Let me know if you have any other questions
