It's a 1989. I know that paint is pretty shot, which is good because I could easily see that this former AZ rig is rust free. Yep, roof and arches clean. It passed smog to boot. Back up to four Cruisers. Yes, my wife approved.

Real nice looking ride.... A bit jealous since I want a 60 series now.

Yeah, the 60 thing is an itch that doesn't go away. Hopefully I'll get it out of my system.

Sweet! Looks great.

She's running a little hot, so I opened up the thermostat housing to see the wrong thermostat with a seal stuck underneath it. The fan clutch is clearly not OEM and it's about half the size (thickness) of a real one. I removed the thermostat, flushed the system very well, removed the radiator and took it to Advanced Radiator up in Rainbow, ordered an Aisin water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, belts and hoses. That should do it. (Oil is clean and the oil cap looks free of moisture, if you were wondering. Love those cast iron heads.)

Update, and it's some comfort to know why the engine was getting warm: Advanced Radiator called today and informed me that the radiator core/tubes are like 95% clogged and it needs to be replaced.

Have you started researching a replacement? I'm in the same boat and starting to look at the CSF or the Mishimoto. Also just ordered a replacement for a severely crusty upper thermostat housing from Parts Geek that has had a slow leak over the last year.

Ed at Advanced Radiator (up in Rainbow, CA) has ordered me an all-metal CSF. In his experience, with vehicles such as ours, aluminum radiators don't have a comparable lifespan with the brass-copper radiators. I did consider the Mishimotos, as I would have saved a little money, but I feel good about sticking with the local small business.

Water pump and hoses. Well, not quite done. Should have been a "Dirty Jobs" episode!
