A couple weeks ago after a brief 4WD outing, my 4WD light stayed on. On closer inspection, the front drive shaft WAS engaged due to a solenoid that failed. I searched MUD and discovered a few options for replacement, then went to the Toyota dealer here in Tacoma.
Of the options available, not one was available (including the '91 Celica option - discontinued). The EXCEPTIONAL parts guru (Al at Titus Will Toyota) accepted the challenge of finding a suitable alternative. He secured two possibilities and worked with me to figure out which one of the two would work.
For $18.57 (+ tax), I got PN: 88691-89107 - Valve, Magnet, No. 1. It fits in the bracket, but the mounting screw doesn't quite line-up. I used a zip tie to secure it - it's working like a champ! After installing it last night, I gave it a test run and had no issues.
Too bad all Toyota parts guys aren't as talented and dedicated as Al. Y'all enjoy a great Labor Day weekend!
