First time posting, mostly lurking from all your wisdom…😀

New engine installed in LC, discovered after installation terrible noise in bell-housing starter area; stop progress forward immediately. Pulled automatic transmission and noticed while we rotate flex-plate starter bendix rotated as well.

Strangely enough, we pulled of flex-plate and reversed coned spacer on end of crack shaft and now have approximately 1/8 inch clearance when all torqued down. Is this enough clearance? Starter bendix does not rotate now when we manually rotate.

SOR’s mention/shows two spacers on diagrams. one on either side of the flexplate to be installed. We did not have one on transmission side of flexplate. Should we? Our LC book also does not show either spacers on any diagram but only mention spacers in the dialog area.

Any thoughts would be appreciated prior to us buttoning this truck back up

Thank you,
