I am looking at buying a 1971 FJ40. I tried to attached a few very blurry pics, but it says they are too big. I can email them if you want. I might buy it and sell it to make just a few bucks, I am not trying to make a killing, but I think I can buy it for a little less than it is worth...I know you guys are honest and I just want some opinions and I guess if anyone is interested, let me know. 1F, 3spd, basically stock, repainted (very faded), some bondo but really not bad. Good floor boards. Motor, Trans, front axle and rear axle have all had work done over the past 3-5 years. Runs, drives. Good tires. Please let me know.
Thanks

Is that a PTO winch?

The headlight and front bumper leave something to be desired.

What kind of shape is the frame in? Tub/floor boards? What type of work has been done in the last few years? Have you taken it out on the highway? Just a few questions - I'm sure others have more...

what the heck color is that?....lipstick pink?....like chris said...what shape...rust...frame

Update

I tried to attached the new pics, but it says they are too big...what the heck am I doing wrong? I will send them to eyezlee to attach. I took these with a REAL camera.
NOT a PTO winch. That is the one thing that I might want to keep, but I do not know what type it is? I want one for my 60 and that one looks pretty big. The guy said he thought that it was 10,000lbs. I drove it today, low and high work well, but for some reason I forgot to use the 4x4, he said it works fine. Speedo does not work, neither do turn signals. Brakes act like they need to be turned pretty badly, but it stopped. Tires are actually pretty nice. Starts and runs nice. A little exhaust gas smell at the stop light. NO leaks, see pics. More bondo than I first thought, but the frame etc.. look pretty darn nice. I have until Sunday to make an offer...ideas?????

Winch?????

If anyone know what that winch is and what it is worth, let me know. He might seperate them. Thanks Craig

Here are my thoughts:

If you are buying with the intent of turning consider that this is an older style transmission / engine. No front disk brakes. Work to do as you'll be (probably) replacing the speedo cable and tracing down wiring issues. If it was a '76 or newer it would have front disks - a desirable trait. And speaking of brakes - you could wrap up a few hundred bucks with new drums/pads all the way around.

Now, if you are buying with the intent of owning, consider all of the above, but keep in mind you bought it because you want to keep it, not sell it for a few dollars profit.

Oh, and don't forget your other mistress, the 60, will probably get jealous and do something to get your attention.

Yes, those are the same thoughts I've been having. I know that it is NOT the rig to modify into something more extreme, that is why I asked the question of value. Unless something new occurs to me in the next day or so, I will probably pass. I still want to know if anyone can tell me much about the winch. I know it is ugly, but it would match the 60:) eyezlee is going to post some better pics for me today.

SOLD

I had a lead from a friend...I put him on it. He bought it for around $2500.
Thanks for the input..it is always fun to find out what stuff is worth.
Craig
