FJ40 look over advice

I found this 69 FJ40 on C/L and the guy is asking $7k. It has a Chevy 4.3L swaped into it. I looks to be in good shape from the pics and video, there doesn't seem to alot of rust. I know he's running the 4l60 trans and I'm sure if he kept the Chevy t-case. I talked to him about trading my 06 Kawi Brute Force 750i or the 89 4Runner and he was interested in trading both or one plus some cash. The brute needs some carb work but runs good and the 4Runner isn't perfect but is 100% rust free and runs perfect. If I were to sell the Brute as is I'd ask $4k and the 4Runner as is for $4000 or $3500 without the Tundra wheels.

Is his FJ40 worth $7k?

It looks pretty well put together. I like the Vortec motor. I would check the rear sill for rust, but it actually looks ok from the video. It looks like original paint which is nice.

I would ditch the body lift, and look into redoing the front brake setup. If you plan on wheeling it much the front axle is weak, and it would be smart to do a mini truck knuckle swap and try to sell the willwood setup.

As a $7000 trade, I would say yeah, as $7000 cash I would say maybe. Probably more like $6000 with cash.

Looks fairly decent. It does have some rust. I would personally want to know about the engine conversionWho did it. Other wise a decent ride.

Thanks, I'm still waiting to hear back from him. I sent him some pics of my ATV and 4Runner. It sounds like a nice FJ40 and I knew about the rust areas, he says it's not that bad "surface". I asked about who did the swap and a few other things. If he'll do a even trade for my 89 4Runner I would very happy and would drive up there this weekend. I have less then $2k in the 89 and that's with the 17" Tundra wheels. I don't think I'd go even with trading both the ATV and the 4Runner, my ATV does need some carb work but it's worth close to $5k.

Is there anything I should check, as in rust hiding places? Where are the common rust areas on the FJ40s?

Check around the frame where the spring mounts are... also under the rear wheelwells and front fenders around the middle suport

I don't think the guy in interested in trading. He asked for all sorts of pics but never emailed me back. I'm going to be putting the 4Runner up for sale soon and I may look for FJ40. Thanks

Well I need to sell the 4Runner and Brute Force first. I also need to be fix my 91 4Runner and my brother 86 4Runner. I droped the 86 off at teh body shop today so I'll be droping the 4.3 in sometime in July.
