Thanks for doing this Onur! :)
I really like the large round ones.
Looking forward to more info you post for us!

Cheers, Allen

Great info , that helps pick out which ones I want on my build vs the plastic-backed cracking versions ....
It would be an excellent resource to have some parts threads like this on the board , it sure would help a lot of folks with updated info and numbers . Not all dealer parts guys can be Beno , that is without doubt .

87901-60011, should be correct for mid 60's US spec FJ45LPB, maybe others(but think non removable top short bed got round). Also used on latter non US stuff. I like this mirror head the best.

I use that mirror head on my 64 FJ45LV OEM fender mirrors
correct on fitting the lvs. my 65 parts book shows it also fitting the fj40v and lv models.

in new part numbering system, the fj25 shows to use mirror number 87910-69010, but i get that going nowhere. onur, can you get that superceded up?

I've got a pair of the 60011s that I use with these arms (87902-60030)

They are a really nice OEM piece. The telescoping feature came in handy when I added my roll bar right in front of the mirror on the passenger side. When wheeling in tight places you can just push them forward to the sides of the hood.

I've gone through countless plastic mirror heads. A long while ago CCOT sent me a free one with an order. It was the convex one. I used it and it eventually cracked around the socket, just like they all do. Once they crack, they won't hold adjustment over about 35mph. It would be sweet if someone reproduced them with some kind of a metal socket.

What happened to the years between 70 and 75 or did I just miss read the descriptions?

I addressed this earlier. Round mirror about a 1/4 inch smaller than the later mirror. Looks like Toyota discontinued that one. Same mounting so guess it make sense since the next was only a little bit bigger. Wonder if the size was a DOT requirement or a requirement in another market. I have read the bezel change in 79 was a requirement the head lights had to be further apart for the European market.

87901-60011: Haven't found conclusive evidence that this iteration was for the US market. I've seen them on BJ42's and a few other non-US versions.

A real nice mirror with black rubber gasket/frame. Metal body.

Could you give a part number (and maybe a picture) of the arms this head fits unto? If possible, I would like to switch to this style mirror head, I have a '78 with the 90303 heads and arms.

Oops...just now saw Sarges post with the part number and picture for 87902-60030 arms...thanks Sarge!

Thanks,

I had this happen also. Mine popped after about 2 months.
Word of warning..

Corner splitting occurred within 1 month of installation when I purchased a pair of those 90303 mirrors (OEM and purchased from Toyota NZ):

But then my BJ40 is left permanently out in the weather (so you may have better luck with them in a less-sunny climate where you have yours garaged).

PS. I can't remember if this photo is of the originals or of the replacements. (But I do know I was so extremely disappointed with the replacements that I converted my arms to wearing Britax mirrors very soon after.)

Thanks for the information Onur. My 5/76 has a large circular on the drivers side and a small circular on the passenger side. Always thought it was strange having 2 different sized mirrors and suspected this is something Toyota would not intentionally do. I am guessing the P.O. replaced the passenger with an older mirror in my cruisers past life as a dedicated hunting rig. Had this one 19 years and am still learning about it, Thanks!

So it seems the larger, squarish plastic-resin backed mirrors are "no good".

I am waiting for the convex ones to come in. I have a feeling these will be resin-plastic backed as well. Though I don't know.

My next thread will be arms. I have a 61 catalog so I will try to go back ateast that far and move forward and get the parts distinguished and ready.

And here is one for Poser.

new number system fj25 catalog lists the arm as 87902-60010, if that helps get the thread going ;)

is there enough info on the oem pintle hooks for a thread? i know someone looking for one. early pn 51980-60010

i don't have a poser pic for ya, but i've got a kowboy pic, does that count ;)

I must have read right over this info, Thanks! You're right, my mirrors are about 1/4" smaller than the larger round ones. I think I might switch to the telescopic arms and larger square mirrors when I finally replace my aging mirrors. Moving to windshield mount will fix the no mirrors problem when the top and doors are removed. Larger mirrors with a more solid mount won't hurt either.

Nice write up Onur. I will add the small round mirrors go back to 9/67, first month of the 68 model. Toyota's system only goes back to 3/69 but those were used earlier. Need to take inventory of what I have. Know I have a couple of arms with broken or worn out attachments Point mirrors. Didn't realize both round ones were still available.

Thank you for the correction. I've updated my post above.

A part of why I want to do this with some parts is to see, in fact, how far back things go beyond the current Toyota dating system. There are a lot of smart folks in the 40 section and pooling together this historical information will help with making sure parts information is current as well.

Have any inside rear view mirror info? Not sure the one on my '78 is what it came with..............

The part for a 1978 is 87810-90801. I have ordered that and will create another thread with that information.

Only 2 inner rearview mirrors are available:

87810-60050: 3/1969 (probably earlier as well)-9/1977

87810-90801: 9/1977-10/1984

87902-60010 is long discontinued. There is enough info for a good rearview mirror arm thread. I'll order some up and get one started. :)

51980-60010 supersedes to 51980-69015 and is barely available (and lists out at $468!!). I'm ordering one to take a look at it.

87910-69010 supercedes to 87901-65010 which is indeed discontinued.

Yup. Exactly the same as the flat ones except for the glass.

I drove my rig around this weekend :). My passenger side 60011 is half-covered with a convex stick-on mirror. It works great.

The US LV's had a slightly different mirror. While similar to the 87901-60011 mirror Beno posted they where a little more rounded in shape and lacked the structural ribbing on the backside. Also the LVs here only came with a fender mounted mirror from 63-64. To make it even more complicated the 1963 version used the round mirror found on same vintage 40s.

The earlier version was third generation. First generation ran from the FJ25 thru the 64 model. Second generation was 65 thru 67. My 9/64 FJ45LP-B which is titled as 65 had this style. Denpending of which model (FJ40, FJ45LV, FJ45LP the arm lenght was different. 68 Model only $X series imported was the FJ40 so only one mirror was used.

A quick update on this thread folks and hopefully some more useful information.

The convex mirror's came in the other day. I had expected these to have a plastic back but they are much nicer than I thought. They are, of course, curved and have a very solid metal frame/back vs. the plastic mirrors.
