So Tenn80 now has TWO batons-one original, one a surrogate South Florida one to supplement the NC orig. The surrogate needs to be protected--it has some valuable cargo---a pack of Georgia Southern Collard seeds!
Anyone know where the NC original baton is? Could it be shipped/sent to the next Western flowing rigs?

I have the original, I picked it up at the ONSC Christmas Party last weekend and it is safe in Charleston. I will be driving to California next week so I need to get it in the mail. Can someone please PM me an address to send it to?

I think it is Tenn80. Just texted him, if he's available, he should respond to this--

I am collecting batons for the western legs. If You can PM me, I'll send the address. Thx man!

Hey there! I am available for any area within a couple hundred miles of Vegas. Looking at the map, if there are some Phoenix members, we could meet them around Kingman or Wikiup, then bring the baton to Vegas for a few days, and possibly drop it off to someone in SoCal around Barstow of Victorville. I'm guessing this wouldn't happen til March or April, judging by the progress so far.

if I know the schedule well in advance, I can drive a leg to or from Phoenix

how far along are we on this. Are we heading west Texas?

It will more than likely be mid to late January before it will be in Texas. Unless we can get someone to do a I-20 west route both batons should be coming up hwy 287 to be passed on to the NM leg. You are more than welcome to join my RT66 leg to meet up with @4Cruisers. My plan is to make a SantaFe overnight part of this.

ok. Just keep me in the loop. I would love to join. An I 20 west loop is doable too. But I would have to carry some fuel. Not many stations from pecos to elpaso. But I can definitely join y'all.

You have Van Horne but the speed limit out there is 85mph. Not much fun in a 40 or easy on the mpg.

I have done some of that stretch in my 40, and you're right it wasn't much fun. When it got dusk then dark, it was downright scary.

Stopped once in Van Horne many years ago during a cross country trip. Flat land and some of the best food I have ever eaten there.

I have done the leg thru Van Horn in both my 40s and my 45. On one of my trips back from the Lone Star Roundup, I played leap frog with @mep1811 all the way back to El Paso. He watched in amazement as I refilled the tank. 15mpg.

I rarely drive above 60.;)

I handed the baton off to @ErikinSC at our Christmas Party. I believe he is going to make an attempt to get the baton back on track with mail being a last resort. :)

A few weeks ago, The Baton made a pre-arrival leg from just outside of Charleston, SC to the meet with @77wagon at the old Sheldon Church and then ventured into Beaufort, SC wit the trio before heading south to Savannah, GA. It then continued further south on any kind of backroad and was joined by @Godzirra before continuing into Florida on two lane asphalt. Crossing a second state border before lunch, @ErikinSC, @CharlestonG8R, @Godzirra carried the pre-arrival Baton to Fernandinho Beach where we met up @chubot and @Kayaker. It spent the afternoon on the coast, taking a ride onto the beach at Amelia Island...

After a sandy ride onto the beach, the pre-arrival Baton continued further south on AIA, via FJ40's and a ferry - and the crew carried it in spirit all the way to St Augustine where we met with @mel lowe.

This is where the southern adventure effectively was put on hold - we returned home to Charleston, SC. The Baton technically needs to "pick up" again and continue it's journey. If someone in / or around St Augustine can pick it up and continue it, i will send it back to St Augustine....

IF NOT - I will reach out to see if one of my other Southern Brothers can meet me in Columbia, SC or Augusta, GA or possibly near Rock Hill, SC to move the Baton further toward @Tennessee80. I Know we have a couple of FJ40's down here... It's getting close to Christmas, but I've got some flexibility to move The Baton - in the FJ40 - to get it ready for the next leg...

Who is up? (I'll be reviewing the thread working backwards)....
