I am getting inquiries about fitting roof tents on FJs. Any body have an opinion on the strength of the factory roof racks? Factory specs? I have not been able to find specs or get to a dealer with one that I can check out.

Thanks for your help.

I belive they are rated at 165lbs, seem like they would be as strong if not stronger then most factory racks. What is the min. req for the tents?

I believe the cross members have a crazy low 75lb rating but I might be mistaken.

Having said that... If a roof tent became available that would work... I would buy one (if it was priced reasonably).

Minimum dynamic laod rating required for any of our tents is the weight of the tent PLUS the weight of any additional gear, rack, etc. Our tents weigh as little as 73 lbs. (Columbus Carbon Fiber) or as much as 154 lbs. (Maggiolina Grand Tour large).

On factory racks, the cross members are usually the weak link. It looks like a set of Thule #415 Railing Feet or #75X Rapid Railing system with standard Thule bars would work with the factory rack. Trying to find one that I can actually LOOK AT. They seem to disappear quickly.

Our tents are priced from $1199 (OverCamp) to $3499 (Columbus Carbon medium).

Thanks for the help on the rack systems. Based on the calls I am getting, there must be a lot of FJs being sold. Very cool trucks.
