First of all I own a 1993 Hummer 4 door hardtop made by am. gen. GM has nothing to do with it, so I can't make any H1 alpha/h2/h3 comparisons to the FJ cruiser.

military/civilian hummer's good points:

1.made for 18 year old grunts(anyone can drive it)
2.desiel(it can swim) and I mean swim...not forge water
3.made to get shot at and still get you home.(run flat tires and on board air).
4.haul 4000+ pounds of gear with no fear of crushing suspention.
5.factory 50mm gunner territ available(weapon not included)
6.if the trail was made by jeeps(skinny)..so what, it'll smash thru anything.
7.the "cool factor" is way up there.
8.BTM, it's a hummer thing but the guys that get the hummers stuck don't know how to use it.if you do, it's almost ATRAC,but alot more work.

FJ Cruiser good points:

1.It's not 7000lbs
2. ATRAC
3.quiet and confortable
4.blows the hummer away in sand
5.You don't have to be an 18 year old marrine to fit in it.
6.it "wheels" as good or better and you don't need a full military crew to keep it running.
7.the "cool factor" is even higher.
8.I can smack the passinger if need be(hummer is too wide, you can't reach)
9.I made $2k switchin' and covered all my upgrades.
10.cruisers ROCK!!!!

There's much more but you'll have to ask...

sorry I can't spell or figure out spell check:doh:

My friend has a H1. We would go out and hit the sand dunes and that thing just seemed to struggle compared to my Jeep (35's, 6" lift, and 4:88's). It was pretty nice that he could air down without having to leave the truck though. As for the width, that thing is frigin wide! But you dont get that much room though for when your sitting down though. The H1 is just a different beast. Congrats on the buy and I'm sure your going to have tons of fun with with the FJC.

thanks homedad! thats kinda what i was asking about. while its obvious that the hummer has some pretty tank-like qualities i havent really seen any of them being wheeled hard, which got me wonderin about a comparo FJc vs Hummer. what about suspension flex? they any good for rock crawlin?

1. But only four skinny 18 year old grunts can ride in it despite being 8' wide.
2. It actually is made NOT to swim, but sink to the bottom and drive.
3. The grunts in Iraq joke about it's inability to stop bullets with the special invisible armor above the doors generally known as "thin air"
4. You just have no place to put any gear (see #1)
5. A gun turret without the gun is generally known as a "hole in the roof"
6. it will not get through an oak tree. Pretty damn worthless on midwest trails.
7. Oughtta have a giant sign on the back that says "why yes, my penis is very small, how'd you know?"
8. Pretty damn expensive non-intuitive semi-locker kinda thing.

H1 - slowest car 0-60, 1/4 mile or anything else for the entire time it was built. Ranked lowest on JD Powers survey when the owners were asked if they would buy another one. Used a diesel that was considered to crappy by GM:eek: for a dozen years after GM gave up on it.

One of the biggest rip offs of the American government ever.

4 a day for 20 years. You would think a stripped one would cost less than $70,000 each. That would be without armor or any other military hardware added.

There's a reason the UN drives Land Cruisers and Patrols.

I agree.
The 6.2 had barely enough power to get out of its own way, the later 6.5 was hardly better.
Both are known to throw rods, break cranks, injest their glow plugs after a module failure. All this and web cracks in every block, cracked heads. I have really grown to hate the 6.2/6.5.
A buddy of mine had his 6.4 blow up the other night (crank) it will be 7K for a reman and that's a cheap one.
How does 150 hp mix with nearly 3 tons of weight?
It doesn't.
I have nothing against the HMMWV as a military vehicle but it sure does not belong on the road.
And I am sure a stock FJC with some real tires would run circles around it off road.
And the HMMWV does not swim. It will sink like the anchor it is.
Give me an 84 BJ42 with a snorkel any day.

no flex...I mean none..but it didn't seem to bother it either...now, I never for a second said the hummer was better, so settle down bashers, but the hummer, as guttless as it was,was a hell of lot of fun, and would crawl up your oak tree and fall on the other side without caring,I once drove the drivers side up a block wall to fit thru a very skinny alley, damn funny and I wish I had a photo.....but I ain't parting with my fjc anytime soon...
