I just purchased my first LC, but I can already tell it won't be my last. It's a 2000 with ~162,000 on the odometer. I've installed a head unit up front and an amp, sub, and inverter in the back. There are plans for few other add-ons down the road. We'll see how these first few months go.

I have noticed two things that were not so obvious to me during the test drive, but after driving it every day it has become more apparent. I'll describe it in hopes that someone else can say, "Yeah, I know what that is. Mine does the same thing..."

As I am accelerating from a complete stop and the revs are rising, I hear and feel a slight vibration throughout car at exactly 1,390 rpm's. I should stress that it's mostly felt through the foot pedal. Once I pass 1,390 rpm's the vibration fades off until a shift into second. If I'm easy on the gas and a shift into second drops the rpm's below 1,390, I'll feel it again once I reach that point. Same thing happens on a shift into third.

The second thing I've noticed is that while travelling down the road at 65 give or take 2 mph I hear and feel another vibration. This one is a slight humming noise that goes away as I take it above 70mph or drop below 65 mph.

I also feel the 4WD Hi/Lo vibrating under acceleration. It ceases vibrating when I let off the gas. I've searched and have found some others on the board commenting about this, and their comments lead me to believe that it is normal operation.

I've installed the Alpine ivaw200 without any problems so if someone needs some advice I can help with that. A backup camera is in the works as well as the dual battery setup. Already running off of the optima 34r. Plan to add a second optima, but haven't decided on the yellow or red. I did take pictures of my install so I'll post them later.

Other than what I described above the LC is running great. I should also mentioned that when I received the LC I swapped out all fluids. 7 quarts of 5w30 Mobile 1 synthetic for the engine. Went with Royal Purple transmission and gear oil. I didn't notice any metal in any of the pans or on any of the magnetic bolts, but the fluid was recently changed before I serviced it.

Congrats on your LC!!!

I don't know crap but here's my thought.......I've had other cars do simmilar and it turned out to be an exaust rattle. at a specific rpm the harmonics were just so that there was a rattle at that exact RPM....may be worth a climb underneath and see if everything is tight...it could be a loose skid plate being vibrated by the exaust hum.

My 03 has Nav...I'd love to upgrade the head unit but I would loose all of the cool nav functions so I'm retroenginering Satalite, Bluetooth, and Ipod Hook ups...Trying very hard not to have any wires or units mounted all over the place.

Good luck...lets see those pics

Welcome to Mud.....:flipoff2:

The 4wd hi/lo vibration is normal.

Mine is the same year and I very much enjoy the ride too.

There are TSBs for both these items but the fixes are expensive and at 162k I would consider them normal and just enjoy the truck.

Check out the TSB FAQ for details and welcome to the board.

Also please add some vehicle info to your sigline so we know what you're driving.

Welcome!

It was dark when it finally hit me that I should take some pictures of my work. Here are most of the toys I have installed so far. These are bad shots, but I enhanced the colors a bit. I'll post a thread when it comes time to add the camera and I won't forget to take pics as I go along.

The switches on the right control the video feed, the inverter, and the starter. I'll be cleaning the front up a bit as time goes on. I don't like those wires coming out of the console. And two of those switches are obnoxiously large. The rca cables will be replaced with female contacts - like those you would see on the back of your vcr or dvd player. In case anyone was wondering there's another hidden switch that works in conjunction with the one on the console to bring the engine alive.

The amp, sub, and inverter are all nice and neatly installed in the back now, but I don't have pictures of it. I mainly wanted to show where I routed my wires by including that shot.

Here's a link to a movie of the interior at night: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5183230759060339216 (only 1/5th of the movie uploaded. Oh well)

Welcome, nice work. Let me know what you do with the camera. i have been shopping for one. Seen alot online, but hoping for one integrated unit. Sound system,Nav,camera,BT, ETC like the 04 stock nav.
I have asked this elsewhere but what is the benefit of royal purple over stock toyota fluids. I only use mobil one synthetic, is this the next logical fluid upgrade and is it worth the cost if changed regularly?
Also, what did you drive before the LC?

I bought my camera from Fry's for $45. It has a cmos chip so display at night should be good unless the picture gets washed out by bright lights.

I used to own a 4Runner. Bought the 4Runner with 40k on it and added another 80k in 3.5 years. It was 2WD otherwise I would have driven it into the ground. So long story short I bought a car with 160k on it to sell one with 120k. The 4Runner was a '96.

I can't intelligibly debate the differences between toyota gear oil and Royal Purple. My sole reason for using it is to increase my maintenance interval under the truck. I've heard plenty of good things about it - plus it's made nearby.

Looks like the fog rolled in after you took that first shot. :flipoff2:

And welcome! :flipoff2:

Is that a portable navigation unit on the center console by the shifter and a dvd player/backup camera where the cd-changer originally was?

looking at the middle picture above: the GPS is upper left of the steering wheel, Sirius satellite radio is next to the shifter, and Alpine dvd player replaced the stock head unit.

That's on the todo list.

I actually had that Sirius unit for the Alpine in my hand ready to check out when one of the sales guys at tweeter told me that I would need to spend another $99 for some other device to accept the inputs and display output etc. - went on and on about it.

Since I hadn't researched it and wasn't 100% sure he was wrong I didn't argue with him. He kept at it wanting me to spend this extra $99. I finally handed the unit back to him and left.

I need to find some more room behind the radio for that thing as it's rather large. Could go between the seats too I guess.
