I need to patch places in my gutter where the rust has eaten holes. Was thinking about using fiberglass tape from Home Depot or Lowes and then using a cat hair fiberglass body filler to smooth out the bumps. Will the drywall tape work for this or is there something better? Thanks

Just buy the fiberglass kit at the auto parts store it comes with the glass mat you need and it'll be much stronger than the drywall fiberglass tape.

I have had better luck filling holes with the woven glass mat and then going over it with the cat hair mat, and finishing off with a little filler.....and a little grinding and sanding.

Since you're filling the rain gutter you may want to tape the hole from the bottom to keep the drips and sags to a minimum.

Remember it drips so put down cloths!

Good luck!

Edit - I mixed my resin in a Chinese take out plastic tray and the resin didn't stick to it. So, you might be able to get away with using that kind of plastic to block hole from bottom and it wouldn't stick to your patch.
