Too bad my wife dosent feel the same. Woke up with a slight cold. reply: "Maybe you got sick from breathing in the fumes from that truck". followed by "what are you doing today/ Me: I am going to p/u a fuel filter for the pig this morning. reply: "Are you keeping track of all the thousands you are spending on that thing?" Am I one of the only one with a spouce that has dislike for this hobby? Maybe I need some more advanced pig management techniques....open to suggestions
Threaten her with LS swap, reality bites hard as to what you could be spending!!

Costco but they didnt have a size 27 w the correct orentation for the 55.

Costco usually carries both orientations of the group 27. I know because I bought the wrong orientation also. Took it back and swapped it out with the correct one without a fuss in about 5 minutes.

Just saw your post at 3:14. But. ..hope this helps

Went tothe Valley Hybrids meet in Stockton yesterday. Pretty fun. only 3, 55's there but always fun so speak with others in the game and also watching some shinanagins at the end of the event.

Grabbed a battery on way back, installed it only to discover prob still same. Engine dies after the initial warm up. Tested the coil and that seemed to be close w/i spec then I started reeding about the ballist resister function. I took a closer look and found that the ceramic piece inside the spring is broketn so, I am hopeful this is where the "current" problrm is. See attached pic. Now its a matter of finding one that will easily mount on the coil strap. I see Summit has one. If anyone knows of one that fits easily I am all ears. Happy Sunday fellas!

Do you really need a ballast resistor?
IIRC, it only dropped voltage when running to make the points last longer, or somesuch wizardry. Modren coils often don't need that resistor. I haven't had one for about 40 years. I bet there's about 99 threads about it that I'm not going to search for you.

Haha, there might even be 104 threads on this... So yeah from what I've read, the older style coils that don't have an internal ballast require one. the new coil ( that every vendor tries to sell )has an internal one. since I an on a budget and the coil tests ok, I'm just gonna fasten on a resister that isn't broken to see if this fixes the warm start issues.

Still very weak on starting. arrrrgh. ran a jumper from the body of the starter to the frame and that didnt change anything. I did see over a 1V when I tested from the bat neg to the starter case w/ the positive using a volt meter, which indicates too much resistance/bad ground. I would think creating a solid ground would eliminate the issue but I get the same weak cranking when starting. trying to narrow down if its the ground or the starter. 🤔

Found the problem/solution. I discovered the contacts for the positive cable were totally rusted @ the starter. I removed both the +/- cables and wire wheeled the block and sanded clean all the connections on both starter and battery. Starts a lot easier now.

Thanks. Not yet. It that a likely spot for air to hide?
I discovered that the old original heater valve (with the handle missing )is till attached and likely closed too. I'll try opening that to see running the fluid through the heater helps dispurse the air.

This ^^^

And a coolant burp funnel does great things. Elevate the front end, apply the burp funnel, open the heater valve all the way and go to town!

Thanks for all the direction on this, esp TT. As it turns out, I am related to Jethro. I didnt even do the simple gazinda math. The coolant gazinda the radiator.
I was waaaaay low on coolant. Once I added the proper amount (1gal), my temp and the engine temp both returned to normal operating levels.... :)
Glad you found the issue!
