It's a bitch getting the starter back in when the engine is installed.
To make it easier, instead of using two bolts for the starter put a stud in the upper hole. Use the stud to hang the starter on as you start the bolt...

Wow, you do have a lot going on.
Those are some strange times when the kids start leaving home - good luck!

I think they came that way from the factory for some years at least!
I know when I was messing with bellhousings the one that @RUSH55 sent me was set up like that - brilliant!

Pilot studs def worked better with the starter then with the transmission ....

Stinkin’ brilliant. I never think of things like this. What a time saver.

trouble starting again.🤔.
" With a capital "T" that rhymes with "P" that stands for Pig..."

Do you mean that your starter motor is not performing as it should?

That is what I am trying to determine. @trainbufftony suggested looking at a PMGR starter as mine may be tired(worn brushes). Any idea what specific one I should look at?
Is he referring to the gear reduction starter? Think that's the one on just about every FJ60. It's a little smaller, a little lighter and does not sound like a real Landcruiser starter. I tried one for a few years, they look good on paper but it failed on me one day. I went back to the clunky big old one and it works just fine, like the sound better too.
Back in the day, when a starter motor was non-responsive to electricity in the normal way, we'd hit the starter on the side, a few times, with a hammer or similar to get it's attention. Usually worked and was good for another 200 starts
