Hello there, I live in Columbia SC (cruiser is in Camden) and was just wondering if you guys had any suggestions on what kind of path I should take with this FJ40. I posted in the main section about my frame which is severely damaged through rust and horrible welding (the guy I bought it from) and was told to try and get a hold of some locals. I dont know why I didnt do that in the first place. Anyway, You guys got any advice as far as repair or used frames in the South Carolina area?

My dad had suggested that getting a new engine might be possible by mid August. So obviously my goal is to have this thing waiting ready to go once the enigne is available. This will be my first big project especially if the best route is a new frame. Either way, Im 22, STILL IN SCHOOL :), and have until August to prep this thing.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Havent noticed your thread in the tech section yet but I know of a cruiser in Conway that I have looked at and want to try and get just to part. The guy is kinda high right now but I am working on talking him down. The body is crap but good frame and engine that was running about a yr ago, probably wouldnt take much to make it run again. If your interested shoot me a pm, if I have someone lined up to get that big stuff it would be a lot easier to swing.

Frame in Columbia

I'm in Columbia, I know a guy with an old frame, but he's taking it to the dump tomorrow. I don't know if its worth using for your project or not... I'll pm you my phone #.

Hehe, yep, Ive got the frame right now. Cheers to MikeSC!!! I owe him one. He hooked me up with a set of wheels & tires, steering wheel, and frame. Hopefully I wont need the frame. Ive still got to get my cruiser somewhere to get the metal cleaned off and ground down just to see what is needed to be done. If I can do the prep myself I could just take it to a welder and possibly save a little bit of dough. Unfortunately, I dont have access to a sand blaster or grinder. Can you rent sand blasters anywhere in columbia?

Dont know of about sandblasting but a grinder is like $40 at lowes and mine has been kicking for 2 yrs. Just let me know when you are thinking about working on it and I might be able to help you out, and I'll definitely be down for welding it up for you.
