Well I decided to keep my rig at home and go on our annual camping trip with my dad. He has one of these 4 wheel drive ford explorer trucks and didn't have enough room for our gear for an extended camping trip so I cut off my pintle hook and put a standard ball hitch on it. (trailer here look towards last post). https://forum.ih8mud.com/trailer-tech/107748-remade-3x3-trailer-they-dont-normally-look-like.html
The trailer is long enough that it clears the side of my 40 if I ever jackknife. But as we are on a little forest road, I was going through the GPS and topo to point out some trails we could take for fishing. AS I pointed out a trail, by dad stopped to look. I was looking down at the map and the next thing a know, bang.
Sure enough he backed up and forgot about the trailer. He jackknifed and did you know, the side of explores are made out of fiberglass.
SO we cussed a bit and shrugged our shoulders. I joked about how strong my welds are and he had a deductible to pay for when he got home. Everything looked fine. Great trip and made it home no problem.
Jump forward a few weeks and I was cleaning the garage and moved the trailer. I thought something seemed strange. Yup, he bent the trailer tongue over to the right about 6 inches. BAD. I am afraid that if I try to straighten it, it will make the metal too weak.
SO new build. I am gong to tear everything down and basically start to reinforce everything with some angle iron, get a trailer axle for it, and use some jeep springs to make it more heavy duty.
No need for pics yet since you can imagine a bent tongue.
