Anyone replaced the oil in their fan clutch with a higher viscosity? I've read alot about it on the 80 forum and replaced the fluid in my 80's fan clutch with 20,000 cst. However, I haven't been able to find anything on types of Tacoma fan clutches and the oil viscosities that work well in them.

Yes I have took it apart did some good cleaning with a toothbrush and kerosene to take off all the gummy oil pls be sure you take off the gasket before cleaning as kerosene makes it grow.
Then suggest you use to fill it up with STP oil treatment or any non smoke engine additive it works very well and saves you a whole lot of dough compare to the toyota viscous oil tube .
Im getting great results and have done many other vehicles with this same tecnique with no problems.
Good luck and make sure you leave it soaked preferibly overnite as one of the sides of the clutch has many holes were over the years that gum has being baked to the inside.

What is the viscosity of the oil you used?
