Hello everyone,
I would like to introduce myself and also ask a few questions. First, a little about myself.
I was born and raised in Colorado Springs. Dad had a '78 CJ5 that we fourwheeled in until our family out grew it. Next came a '73 FJ40 with SBC/TH400, mom and dad up front and 4 kids on side mounted seats in the rear. We did this for years but as we got older the family drifted more to dirt bikes and atv's though mom drove FZJ80's ('93 and '94) for about 10 years. As my brother and I got our Driver licenses, we got back into 4 wheeling again. I have had (among others) a '78 FJ40 w/ Throttlebody injected GM motor, ARB lockers, etc to a '99 Jeep TJ w/ Supercharger, ARB's, 37's, and so on. We practically lived on the trails of Colorado as well as frequented Moab about 4-5x per year. There is not much I haven't built or more likely broke on a offroad vehicle.
Vehicle Experience: Previously i have owned a '78 FJ40 (built), '99 Jeep TJ (built), '04 V8 4runner (stock), '06 GX470 (stock), my wife now has a '13 GX460, and I just sold a '09 Tundra TRD.
Fast forward several years, I moved to Tulsa, OK and lived there for several years. Got out of offroading and began road racing (amateur) at the local Hallett Raceway. I now live in Fort Worth, TX, am married, and have a 3 year old girl and 1 yr old boy. My wife drives a GX 460 and I drive a BMW M5 that does a good job of daily driving my short commute as well as racing around a couple times per year down at the MSR facility in Cresson, TX.
I really want to get another offroad oriented vehicle to double as a Home Depot gopher as we renovate our house. I want something reliable and moderately built to take the family out camping and 4wheeling like I did as a kid. I want my kids to learn how to camp, build a fire, cook on a fire, carve sticks, and just generally enjoy the outdoors.
I think I would like to find a nice 80 series, 100 Series, or possibly another 120 series (GX or 4runner). I would like to find one mildly built (as time is precious these days) but I am not opposed to doing some mods if the right vehicle comes along without. Anything you all know of for sale I am interested.
I also would like to get out and meet the other folks who use their Land Cruisers on trail. I would love to talk shop with anyone in the Fort Worth area or possibly out on a trail ride as well.
Thanks for reading and I look forward to meeting some of you!
