I have a faint clicking noise, sounds like a relay, coming from the center console area while driving. I mainly notice it while driving on the highway, but I have heard it at other times, too.
The clicking seems to have no real pattern but it does seem to be controlling duty cycle of …something.
The noise will go “click” and then a 1-4 second pause, and another “click” (they are faintly but distinctly two different clicks, like a relay clicking on and off). Then there’s a variable length pause, sometimes a second or two, but sometimes it can be much longer.
I’ve looked at wiring diagrams, relay locations, asked other techs, can’t seem to figure it out. It’s not a problem, I’m just the curious type.
So far, it does not seem to be affected by the following:
Cool box on/off, cruise control on/off, seat heater/cooler on/off, main climate control on/off, rear climate control on/off, headlights on/off, wipers on/off.
I haven’t had a chance to see if it still makes the noise in cooler temperatures (below about 65°F).
It also doesn’t seem to be related to torque converter lockup.
Hmm..
