I just moved here 2 days ago from MA. No emissions required. The truck is desmogged, so I'm not sure if a good tune-up will do the trick or not. To be honest, I'm not sure if the Cat is gutted or not, as the PO did the desmog. I just did some work on the truck that had me restabbing the dizzy, so I might just need some tuning. I failed HC and CO%. HC was 977 at Idle and needed 220. CO% was 2.07 and needed 1.20. At fast idle the standards were the same and I blew 268 (closer) and 5.76.

Any recommendations? Can someone tell me if there is a cut-off for repair costs? Can I spend a certain amount and still fail, or will they keep making me go back? I have all the parts from the desmog. Should I bite the bullet and put it back together. I really want to avoid this option. Also, are there private garages that test?

Thanks for any info. Now that I'm down here I'd be happy to meet up with any of you. I'm in Blairstown.

QQ Plates

Anyone run QQ plates? How strict are they about driving around with these plates. The truck is no DD, more of a weekend cruiser. Any comments would be appreciated.

It depends on the area (police) regarding running QQs If you are just weekend driving and not using it everyday you should be fine
As for smog it if the desmog was done right ,tuned up oil changed and the cat is intact you should be able to pass

Koffer is correct. Unless the police are on a "fund" drive QQ plates should be ok. They don't open the hood at inspection as much and if it's clean out the exhaust it will pass.

Thanks guys. I think I'll try to get a tune-up and then go the QQ route if it doesn't work. I'm only going to have a weekend driver anyway.
