dude. that is invaluable. The install went great! The windows look so good and better imo than the solid windows. Im beyond excited to get mine in and installed! I ordered all new locks and stuff for mine and the parts numbers reference were off of some toyota van and not an 80 series, at least for the ones I ordered. They had the same parts numbers as an hj61

Ah, so that stuff is from the van! USA dealers seem unable to get or sell non-USA parts, so I figured the HJ61 part numbers carried over to a USA vehicle. Just like the side markers on a 60 - Toyota used those for years on all kinds of vehicles. Hell, my 79 Corona has them.

Looking forward to updates on the parts kit you’re sourcing. That’s gonna save people quite a bit of time if it winds up being good stuff.

Oh, I forgot…. But Jim, what did it cost?

Scott’s Rubber Bailey channel: $100 shipped to my door
Toyota, 1st order: $150
Toyota, 2nd order: $75
Amazon, d-shaped weatherstrip: $30
3M ribbon sealer: $50
Paint: $15
Junkyard edge trim: $20

I had abrasives and Ospho laying around so I’ll leave those out. I also overbought on the d-shaped stuff and ribbon sealer, so you can knock those down by half (-$40).

Back of the envelope math says $400 in supplies and parts. That’s over and above the cost of the windows themselves which can run anywhere from $300-700 for the pair. All in you’re looking at around $1000 all in for a FULL resto & install.

Can it be done cheaper? Hell yes. Reuse all the old parts like the center post and latches. That saves almost $250. Skip the paint and buy lunch instead. Find a Bailey channel for cheaper in the US - although some folks tried that a few years back and didn’t come up with anything. Maybe the kit @dbbowen is looking at sourcing saves some money too.

There ya have it, bottom line is around $700-$1000 all in.

The rubber seals Australia kits are freaking mint. Come with everything pretty much besides the butyl tape stuff for refurbishing the window rubbers.

What exactly is the "frame packer kit"? I see what I assume to be rubber spacers to ensure the frame sits centered in the body opening (giggity) like I used when I installed mine, so am I correct in guessing the longer rubber piece in the bags is meant to be an outside trim around the window assembly's frame and gets packed into the gap between frame and body?

It’s the “d shaped” molding that goes over the top and down the sides a little bit I believe.

@dbbowen Dude that stuff looks great. What a time saver. And they have the wedge shaped shims too - those are NLA from Toyota so I kind of made my own by cutting up the shims that come in the 3M ribbon sealer box. That reminds me I need to get that mailed out to you. I didn't forget, just busy from like 6AM until 11PM 7 days every week right now.

My only gripe with that kit is the edge trim - it would be nice if it came in some color that kind of matched anything inside a 60. Cream would be ideal since it sits next to the headliner and the plastic cladding. But gray or brown to match the upholstery would work too. I'm still rocking junkyard blue-gray trim, but on the hunt for brown take-off stuff from the door openings.

When you get some time can you take some edgewise photos of the "bailey channel" stuff? I'd really like to compare that to the Scott's Old Rubber channel I bought.

The little wedge spacers/shims are 62279-90K00

Dog loved the windows this weekend, by the way. Made all the effort worthwhile.

I just got some from Japan a week ago. Hmmm.
Maybe because it’s a non-US part and I was at my local dealership asking about it! I stand corrected.

The latch stuff is a crossover from 90s Toyota vans fwiw, but we looked on that part diagram and they didn’t have anything similar to the wedges. Same with the 80 Series diagram.

The bottom ones are especially important though - they keep the weep holes elevated from the bodywork so they can drain water.

The windows I have only had a couple of the wedge spacers so I also had to use small rubber blocks. I'm still up in the air if I want to refurbish mine or just go with the gull wing windows down the road, but if I refurbish I'll order the whole seal kit and have new powder coat put on the frames.

Now I'm curious how the wedge spacers are supposed to be oriented 🤔

Fat end facing outboard is how they were when I got the windows

very nice write up! I did a refurbish and install last winter. about $1000 all in. Wish I had known about that Rubber Seals kit.....I pieced parts together. I also had to cut the corners of the baily channel for it to fit deep enough in the grooves, like the factory piece was.

and yes, the dogs like it!

No worries man, i still dont even have my windows in the country yet so im in no rush!

The shims you are talking about, are you talking abiout the little rectangle pieces in the photos?

As far as the edge trim, they do have different colors. The original rubber trim was black so they sent black, but they do have multiple colors i believe because they have it in other kits they use on their site, would probably just have to shoot them an email. Theyre super responsive. I actually thought it was going to be rubber at first but i dont mind black, as its whats in there now with my fixed window

Ill try and get some pics tonight. They all should pre cut and everything for length and what not

The nice thing abotu this is all of the drain holes, the holes for the screws, and the length should all be pre cut and ready to be installed. Thats like the main reason i tried the kit instead of just piecing it together like you did

And that makes sense for aligning the window assemblies as close to perfectly as you can when sliding them into the body. Given the packing molding that goes along the top and down the sides, it would make sense if each assembly has two wedges on the bottom, one on the forward "side" and one on the rear "side" just below where the packing ends for the sake of alignment.

This sound about right?
