EDIT - My rear tailgate is stuck from the accident it was in. the rods on the inside are not connected to the latch. any ideas for unlatching that tailgate?

Remove the access panel(s) on the inside of the tailgate and you should be able to actuate the rods manually.

Wanted an easy Win. Took out all the factory sound deadening. I consider floor 98% great shape.

45L of crushed dry ice worked like a charm.

Found this weird box. I pitched it in the trash it wasn’t hooked up.

Removed historical window tint and cleaned windows. Removing them soon. I figured it would be easier to remove window tint installed. Pretty happy with the progress. My plan is to put the seats back in so they have a home. 2 car garage with minimal storage is challenging.

Hopefully tomorrow i can pull the dash to start refurbishing the dash pad.

Bonus:
I decided to test out some iron x and various other degreaseers on my spare to get the crud off. I think this one needs to be refurbished or machine polished. Came out pretty good for chemical strip and scrub brush.

This is just pure excitement. This dash drips of 80’s style:

Switches mocked up. Not my ideal look but happy enough.

Start of the radio bracket:

I need to come up with a rear mounting point to omit rattle. I still need trim the bracket a finish weld/paint it.

i am happy with 45mins of progress since this was trial and error.

Anyone have any cleaning recommendations for the gauges? I’ve got some surface rust on my guages. I don’t want to start scrubbing and remove the decals.

I keep tackling small projects. For some reason I keep coming back to the interior. (I am avoiding metal work)

This weekend I Took out the dash And Cleaned out all the dust and crap. I deleted the vent in the dash(let me know if that’s a bad idea)
Tomorrow I am going to body fill all the areas where i removed the foam with fiberglass body filler. I think if i get the dash right. The project will feel like it’s moving.

I will be wrapping the dash in a matching leather to my seats.

I know you pulled out your interior flooring but was that vinyl? Was it in good shape, thoughts? My 60 has what was original dark brown carpet and it is stained and sunbleached enough in spots I might replace it entirely. As my 60 is mainly a mountain hauler at the cabin and I live in a rain forest it needs to not absorbe water like a carpet would allow so I am considering a vinyl replacement ordered from Australia.

I ordered new carpet from @dnp The previous owner actually removed the carpet. But us spec would have recycled padding and molded carpet on top. I would recommend a new carpet kit it will refresh the interior big time! It’s not that expensive and a huge pop to the interior.

Yeah, the carpet really does make a difference, doesn't it? For some reason, the mfr. I use couldn't produce vinyl for the configuration of either the 60 or 62. Vinyl is certainly more water resistant, but it's also harder to "keep," as a black surface will show anything that's on it.

@taoofbean if we can help you with carpet/mats, please let me know.

Thanks,
David

David, do you sell a kit for the fj40? I need carpet for my other truck. I am tired of floor heat.

Unfortunately, not at the moment. It's been hard to believe that I haven't been able to convince the mfr. there's a market for it! I've tried, and they tell me they think no one would want it.....but I'm not giving up! They also were skeptical that the market would be large enough to justify making molds for the 60/62, but I absorbed the cost of shipping them two trucks and proved them wrong.......

I'll let you know if they come around

Oh yeah also, tell me about that blacked out grille on yours, did the previous owner do that with spray paint or was that some aftermarket thing?

And leather wrapping your dash? WHA? Sounds amazing if you can make that work.

It was painted by previous owner. I actually dig the look. I may strip it down and put a proper finish on it. It’s all chipped up and abused so it needs a refresh.
