I've been peeking over the fence into the new Land Cruiser 250 forum. Don't judge me. Several posts have noted the relatively low ground clearance of the latest model, and I wondered how it compared to the original factory ground clearance for my 1993 US-spec 80-Series. I looked online for the ground clearance for 80-Series Cruisers and found various numbers, but nothing official from Toyota. Does anyone know the ground clearance spec for 80-Series Cruisers back in the day?

8.1 inches. FZJ80 (1993-1997) - https://www.tlc4x4.com/vehicles/fzj80/

From the original factory sales brochure when I bought my 1993 back in 1992: Minimum Running Ground Clearance - 10.8 inches.

From another thread:

" Running clearance is the distance between a level ground surface and the lowest point on the vehicle excluding ALL unsprung weight. IE this would exclude the wheels, brakes, hubs, axles, and most importantly the rear diff.."

The rear diff is what gives the 80 that lower value of 8.1. Doug's number is definitely an important metric to consider though.

For comparison's sake, a Crosstrek has 8.7 inches of ground clearance along with 8.7 inches of running ground clearance.

Thank. See what I mean? 8.1 vs. 10.7. I'll go with the brochure.
