This is a funny new bug, started about a week ago I think.

If I type in a degree symbol, like for a temperature, sometimes my post will have an asterisk right after the degree symbol. But it's not consistent. There is probably a rule for when it happens but I haven't figured it out. It doesn't bother me all that much, just thought it was funny.

For example, 32°*F, or maybe 55°*F, or 67°*C or even 145°*K.

OK in that post it did it consistently. I did not type those asterisks in.

try:

32° F
32° F
32°*C

Test:
55ºF
55ºC
55º C
55º F

Are you typing the degree symbol in with the keyboard using the ASCII input? I have used the ALT + key pad numbers of 0186 to put degrees in before without problem. Have not tried lately however.

testing would require me to learn how to enter a degree symbol...

test: 91 degrees today

nope, no asterisk :)

It's shift-option-8 on my Mac keyboard. Then I type a space and then the F or C. The asterisk appears where I typed the space. This is a new bug, it just started recently, I've been typing temperatures for years and never saw it before.

for example 55° F, or 69°*C, or 485°*K
99°*F
103°*C
or 123° F

As you can see it's inconsistent and I haven't tried to figure out the rules. Right now it is 17° F here outside and 70° F in this room.

Like I said it's only mildly annoying, but I thought you should know about it, more data is always good, who knows it might help you figure out an important problem some time.

48° testing

457°C
32°F

MacAir...

more:

31°
78°
92°F
110°C

testing 45° C

and with that, I blame your computer...not happening on my MacAir :)

It happens with three different computers using two different browsers. I think. I actually haven't paid attention at work since I changed to Chrome. I am using Firefox 9.0.1 right now, under MacOS 10.6.8.

Trying something else. That post was with the quick reply. This is the full editor. Again Safari.

55° C, 67°*F, 475°*K

You only had two examples with a space between the degree and the letter. Maybe I'll just stop typing a space and stop thinking about it.

On Chrome on my office Mac now. It's 31° F and we had freezing rain all night and now it's dumping snow.

That's -0.5° C
or about 273° K

90° F
69° C
55° F

:hhmm:
