Time to upgrade! Im selling the lx450 and looking at getting a 2001 with 90k from the Toyota stealership in Tracy, they want 23000 with a 3 yr, 36000 mile warranty included. they want 2k just for the warranty, my first thought, no bueno. i thought i put it to the experts. Good deal? or move on? Ive seen newer with less miles for less money but at places that look less than reputable( Crazy Hakeems discount auto) for example.

Any dealership can hook you up with a warranty, much cheaper than that. My 100k/7yr was apparently going to cost $1200 at a non-Toyota dealership, and they could've gotten me the same truck for many thousands less. But I spent the extra at a Toy dealership, a fool and his money I guess.

extensive discussions about ext warr here. Have a look. Get a Toy one if any.
Buying a truck at a dealer does not do much extra for ya IMO with possible exception of high level Toy ext warr that require CPO etc, plus you'll pay extra for it.

I bought my 80 with 58,000 miles on it. I was worried about routine maintenance/repair costs such as birfields, etc up to around 100,000 miles, so I got a 3 year 36,000 mile extended warranty. It paid for itself and then some in the form of Birfield replacement (both sides), starter, oil pressure sending unit, and some other odds and ends. I wasn't worried about Toyota quality as much as I was worried about routine maintenance things coming up in the first 3 years of ownership. Thanks to my mud education about 80s, I hedged my bets and came out a little ahead. Oddly enough, the repairs needed when I owned my 4Runner almost matched my LC mileage wise, so when my starter on LC started acting up on my LC at around 65,000 miles it resembled what happened on 4Runner at 63,000 miles.

I recommend an extended warranty based on my experience, Land Cruisers can be expensive to repair, particularly if your mechanical skills or space to work on it is limited. I have repaired some things myself, other problems I took to the Toyota Dealer.
