I was talking to one of our members last night about rerouting my exhaust to avoid blow back and improve (lower) the noise level. He recommended replacing my headers with Corvette Rams Horns from Performance Automotive Wholesale, going from dual exhaust to a two to one crossover, using the Downey high performance exhaust kit and a high flow catalytic converter from JEGS or Summit and route the exhaust behind the rear passenger side tire. I run a low compression small block chevy supercharged with a Weiland 142 to bring the blown compression up to 11. The HP is around 400. Will this system be adequate for my engine set up?

Raoul,

How are your pipes running now after the headers? I would think running a complete dual 2.25 system all the way back with flowmaster 50's would not only give a good noise level but keep the pressure happy.

Unless you were running a 3 inch pipe the single line out the back seems a little too tight.

pipes

The pipes run straight back and out the back, no catalytic converter, flow master exhaust but smaller than 3 inches. Noise abatement would be nice, blow back avoidance is a necessity.

exhaust silencers

So the consensus seems to be dual, plus silencers or mufflers?????, what about dual catalytic converters-worth it . I have posted this question in a different form before and the behind the tire location is the consensus- is there room for all of this stuff??? should I use rams horns instead of headers???how about size should I go to 3 inch or would that make the issues worse???

The problem is the supercharger. many folks run a crossover with a single exhaust becuase a crawler doesn't have to breathe. It fits better and works well at low RPMs. your truck sounds like it's built for power. A mud bogger, perhaps?
A 40 doesn't have room down the right side to run a pipe without going outside the frame or under the transfer case. Neither is the best option for wheeling it. I have seen them with two pipes running side by side or one on top of the other down the left side. then you could put one out each side for bling, or just dump them both out the left. if your doing mud or sand drags or just pimpin' it on the street, then running outside the frame will work, I guess.

Theres plenty of room under the back if your tank is under the passenger seat. You can run all kinds of stuff back there. The cats would be an issue, but a competant exhaust shop should be able to get them both in the space under the driver's area. They need to be reasonably close to the engine to work. If you want to run cats, then maybe running both pipes down the driver's side, over the axle, then cross over with mufflers behind and parallel to the axle, dumping to the right.

Ram's horns work great on a NA engine. I generally do not like headers, but it seems to be silly to supercharge it and not let the air out.

good post

Thanx for the solid info. You are right but the supercharger is uselessly cool and I had to do it. your advice is on the mark and hopefully I can find someone to help me do it like you suggest. Will the cats hurt performance but help with the noise
