Hey Guys,
I live in Ontario, and our insurance industry makes it difficult to drive RHD cars here so I'm looking for a European importer. I've found a start up out of the Netherlands dutchautoparts.com and the contact I'm using there seems great. I've Googled them and they definately sell diesel VW/Audi parts to NA, but the importing thing is new to them. do any of you have expierience with these guys?
cheers

I know a guy in Quebec that has imported stuff out of Portugal. Paulo at Rydz Garage 514-726-7939 or http://www.rydzgarage.com/. Good guy at he also sells ARB :P

thank you for the very generous offer, I appreciate it. Right now I just want to make sure this business is legit. their address is
Kampsesteeg 17
5688 KJ Oirschot
The Netherlands
is this anywhere near you?
if I ever end up out that way, I get you an Amstel or Oranjeboom.

It seems ok, remeber that most Landcruisers are rusted (english, ireland, dutch, german, swiss, italy, finland, denmark, sweden etc.)
Spain and portugal and part of france are ok but no maintenance, italy the same.
A repair route is poland (cheap labour, but poor work if you dont stay with them to check every minute, same is morocco)

So go trough the ads and get a feeling of what is going on here.
I almost bought a 6000 euro hj61 from italy and now the same one is for sale at 1000 e without engine...
Imagen you got that one in a crate...

Anyway maybe it is better to come over here and have a nice holiday with the best souvenir? (prices are now -40% because from 2014 roadtax will go from 0 to 2300 euro per year)

I have good experience with L&L: http://cruiserworld.eu/cruisers
They will be 100% honest in describing a vehicle good/bad points.

and beer??? we do weed all day bro...:flipoff2: (cliches lol)

Have you considered importing from Mexico or Central America? Lots of LHD diesels to choose from.

I work with a couple of Columbians, they suggested the same thing.
I think I like the idea of a European holiday, and hitting the bong with some new Dutch friends.

LandCruisers, especially 60series, will become cheaper here soon. Prices are already going down.

Regulations are most likely going to changed regarding classic cars and roadtax. At the moment vehicles older than 25years are tax exempt. From 2014 diesels and LPG powered vehicles will be tax exempt when they are 40 years old or older!

As roadtax for a 60series will be around the €2000 a year a lot of people will not want to pay that and try to sell their 60.
Even though it is still uncertain if it's actualy going to happen, the market has already crumbled. Lots of small businesses who are involved with classic cars have gone under..

Anyway... LandCruisers and LandRovers will be getting a fair bit cheaper here. A guy selling 25year old LR 110 and LR 90 was already selling 2 for the price of 1 as he can't get rid of them anymore.

wow, that's quite a jump in tax. someone is getting screwed. maybe we should get together and start an importing business between Holland and Canada.
JDM imports are common on the west coast here, but with insurance rules being different province to province, LHD vehicles make way more sence.
I guess I should save up and buy a boat!

Yeah I know, it's insane. Lucky my Rover is 48years old :D.
An 80series is around 2600 euros a year... It's ridiculous.
Everyone owning a classic car is getting screwed. And all because of 'the enviremont'... yeah right, it's all about them squeezing the last cent out of us:crybaby:...

I know next to nothing about importing/exporting vehicles. Well, not entirely, exporting is the easy bit for us. Figuring out how it works to get it on a boat, I wouldn't have a clue actually.
Exporting 25+year old LandRovers to the US seems quite lucrative as well, as long as they are truly original vehicles and not have their VIN swapped like so many do.

I hear you brother, I guess it's big business and the government getting together to make sure you buy new cars all the time.
as for import/export, I have no clue either, and I live 1800kms from the close coast!

Well actually, over here you can import just about anything you want. As far as I know at least. Don't know about new foreign vehicles that don't have european type approval though:hhmm:.

There's probably money to be made exporting our rusty LHD cruisers your way :D.
Not something I would be interested in doing though.

Isnt it possible to get LHD cruisers from the US, or South America, into Canada? From the US seems easy, just drive it back home. Or is it not as simple as that? :hhmm:

importing into Canada is pretty easy, anything over 15 years can come. my current 80 is from the states, only problem is I want a diesel. as far as rust goes, I'm in CANADA! we invented rust.

I first tought the same thing. His parent still live in Portugal and has imported vehicles from Japan before (He's currently driving a HJ61 from Japan) and he his now looking to importing from Europe. Last month he have a nice Defender and a Mitsubishi (?) pickup in front of his store.

Really good guy, I've work on my cruiser in the past and he also sell TJM :P

What exactly are you looking to import? Europe isn't the only place with LHD diesels.

Where are you in Ontario? I am in Kingston, and have imported before (not a cruiser) and will be importing again (a cruiser)

IMO, If you're looking for a 60, buy one here, then swap the body off a gasser from the south.

hey folks,
just to update and provide a little closure to this post. I bought a JDM HDJ81 that was converted to LHD right here in Ontario, andthe seller threw in a FZJ with a blown headgasket andlockers.
I need to do a little work(isn't that the fun of it anyway) so I will post a buildthread come spring, and probably a classified add for the extra stuff I will have.
thanks to all that contributed, and hope to get down to Cruiserfestnext year, now that I will be ableto afford the fuel!
